Suns VP Van Arsdale suffers stroke

PHOENIX (Ticker) - Phoenix Suns senior executive vice president Van Arsdale suffered a stroke over the weekend, the club announced Monday.

Van Arsdale, 62, has been with the club since its inception in 1968, serving as a player, television commentator, coach and executive.

" Van Arsdale suffered a stroke in his home on Saturday," a club statement said. "He is resting comfortably and we hope for a full recovery. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers at this time."

He scored the first point in Suns history and finished his career with 12,060 points in nine season with the club, the third most in franchise history. His uniform was retired on November 13, 1977.

A three-time All-Star during a 12-year career, Van Arsdale tallied 15,079 points and was an NBA All-Rookie selection in 1965-66 with the New York Knicks. He was Phoenix's first selection in the 1968 NBA Expansion Draft.

A Suns color analyst for 15 years, Van Arsdale was named vice president of basketball operations in 1987. He was 14-12 as an interim coach during the 1986-87 season.
