I just posted this in another thread, but I expect the bottom of the West to be Spurs/Wolves/Kings 10-12 in some order, Pelicans 13, Rockets/Thunder 14-15 in some order.

If this ends up being true then tonight's game will have a decent impact on which team finishes #10 and makes the play-in. I expect the Wolves and Kings to push pretty hard for #10, and the Spurs probably will too because I don't see them tanking on purpose.

i'm still waiting to see if zion comes back and helps the pelicans make a push towards a better record at some point but not sure if that will happen. i do think the spurs should be somewhere between 10-12 in the west but i also think that there will be better records in the east as well so there is a possibility that the spurs could finish with a bottom five record overall.

Yeah West is real weak I think we’re looking at 8th pick but hoping the ping pong balls will smile on us and we move higher. Don’t know when Zion coming back but I don’t think any time soon coming off broken foot and being in terrible shape I am thinking maybe a month and a half or two months

I think Zion will come back and push the Pelicans into trying to win, but I think it will end up being too little too late because from what I read Zion is still a few weeks away from coming back and the Pelicans look like trash without him. They're already 1-10 and will be at least 1/4 of the way through the season before he comes back.

I can see the Pelicans joining the Spurs/Wolves/Kings group if Zion does give them that spark, I just don't see it as all that likely. Just a difference of opinion.

I think the Magic and Pistons are very likely to finish worse than the Spurs, and one or more of the Raptors/Wizards/Pacers/Cavs (even considering their current records) could fall below them too. A top 5 pick for the Spurs is barely within reach but only if they start tanking soon, and I don't expect Pop to want any part of that.

Remember when playing teams like the kings was nothing more than us arguing how many points we were going to win by ? 15...20 ? Or arguing with how long would it take us to get a 30 point lead and rest the starters ?

Those were the good ol days

This is another must win game if the Spurs want to have a compe ive season. Just another one.

Mostly, they've lost the previous must wins so I'm not terribly optimistic.

The FO knew they had a backcourt they really liked but it lacked one thing. That was going to the the Achilles heel and it was (is).

But they addressed it at the time in a fairly nice way.

They got a pure-shooting 3 in FA. Take the pressure off the backcourt. Exactly the move they needed to make.

And then because, situationally, you might need an actual guard who could shoot (but not a starter), they made another nice move.

And the team is playing according to plan in many ways.

But so far it's close but no cigar.

One thing I really like is that these guys really like each other and are fighters. No Zions, no Simmons. Couple that with the fact that they're young and, therefore, will improve and I remain optimistic.

Spurs probably win this one seeing as how the Kings also suck (per par) and they’re at home.
