Ugh, no. Giannis a slimy as and dirty to boot. He's nothing like Tim, just like Kawhi wasn't.
I saw these articles a little earlier with comparisons of Giannis Antetokounmpo to Tim Duncan. I didn't see anybody else post them, so I figured I would share them.

I don't think he's like Tim either, but I haven't followed him much. What makes you say he's slimy and dirty? Anything in particular that I don't know about? Again, I haven't followed him much. Last year was the first time I watched him for more than a few games in the playoffs.
I also wonder, if Kawhi didn't get hurt, I think the Clippers would have made the finals. Do you guys think the Bucks could have beaten the Clippers? Last time Kawhi met Giannis in the playoffs, it didn't go so well with Kawhi outplaying him. I wonder if Giannis would still have broken through that barrier going against Kawhi.
First AD then Giannis. People will just want something to write about. Win a couple more rings, then start the comparison.
Man, those AD comparisons made me angry. Some were saying he's better than Tim Duncan ever was after winning that one watered down ring, in maybe the worst playoffs ever in the bubble. lol. I said to people that is a freaking joke comparing him to TD (At the time, I mentioned he hadn't led his teams anywhere for years). How is AD doing now (looks like he's back to leading his teams to nowhere)? Craziest stuff I ever heard, but people were also going along with it at the time. He might have skill, but that doesn't mean he's anywhere near the player TD, Shaq, Hakeem, D-Rob or any of those guys were who constantly lead their teams to the playoffs, and outplaying most of their opponents in the regular season on the way to the playoffs, while also make their teams legit Championship contenders year after year. How many of Anthony Davis' teams were legit Championship contenders? Anthony Davis had the talent and flashes of MVP level skill, but I don't recall any season in the league he was the clear cut best player.
If having a debate on comparisons to TD, Hakeem is pretty much the only guy I'd have a serious debate against (I still think Tim was better, but it was closer than any of these other ones where a guy has had one great playoff run). Having said that, I feel Giannis is at least much better than Anthony Davis to have his name mentioned against TD.

He would have beaten Kawhi if they had met up. The Raptors had a better set up to guard him. It wasn't just Kawhi guarding Giannis. It was Marc Gasol, Siakam, Ibaka all forming a wall around Giannis. The Clippers didn't have the personnel to create the wall around him like the Raptors did.
Yeah, good point, the Raptors had better defensive personnel and strategy to handle him. However, Kawhi wasn't in top physical condition in that series (I remember him limping around some of the games in the series, but he still had a better series than Giannis). I just wonder if Giannis would have been a bit shaky mentally if he went against Kawhi's team again remembering how it turned out the previous time they played. Maybe he wouldn't have as he seemed to be a different player in last year's playoffs with a lot more confidence that I ever saw from him before.
For the record, AD was the only player at the time I would have been happy trading Kawhi for when Kawhi asked out. If I had my pick of a 1 to 1 swap with anyone in the NBA, he was the only guy I wanted. I didn't even want Giannis back then, so it goes to show how much he improved since then as he wasn't even in my mind as a league MVP. I really did want AD over anyone else as I thought he did have all the skills and talent to be the best player in the league. I wonder how he would have done here under the tutelage of Pop and TD coaching/working with him, or even on a different team like the Celtics (Man Ainge should have went all in trying to get him, instead of holding on to all those draft picks and overvalued young talent he had. What a screwup from Ainge as he had the assets to put in a legit offer).

Kawhi limping was very laughable in that series. He would start limping when he played like crap but then would dunk the ball a minute later like he was perfectly fine. To me it was all an act to cover up when he was playing bad. Giannis would have curb stomped Kawhi. Kawhi was not guarding him one on one in their previous playoff match up. Every time Giannis caught the ball, he was doubled teamed with Kawhi and either one of Siakam, Marc, Ibaka being the help defender. Who outside of Ibaka on the Clippers is going to help double team Giannis successfully? Also, I don't see Giannis being shaky against Kawhi in the rematch. The Heat embarrassed Giannis in '20 in the bubble and talked a lot of trash and rubbed it in but a year later he swept them like they were a bunch of nobodies.
I always thought Giannis style of playing was more similar to D Rob. Not saying he is better than the Admiral, but I think his style is more comparable to #50 than to #21.
the comparison is not apt
With both Leonard and Duncan I see guys that are quiet publicly yet jovial and close with those in their circle. Based on his interactions with Pop and some team people after he left I really think that if a biography comes out, (Which happens if he has a few healthy seasons in LA before it's all said and done) We will find out that he was placed in a situation to choose between family/L.A. path grabbing endorsements/Money and Staying in SA and being the new quiet face of the Spurs. I have lightly followed him since he left and everything about him personally seems to have held and doesn't really fit with the management style his contract negotiations and employment have set
If Tim had Giannis' athleticism then he would have been the GOAT by a mile. Tim didn't need it to be sure, but to imagine him with it is fun
He’s better than D Rob
Giannis is fantastic but the thing Timmy had over most great players was sustained greatness for almost two decades.
TD carried a franchise to WINS, not just pretty stats.
He had the stats too, especially when you factor in defense, but it was that mental toughness, desire to win, and ability to translate that to teammates that made him truly special in a way that most players never will be.
IMO David is a much closer comparison to Giannis's game.
Last years Finals had some Duncan type games for sure.
It's a start. We shall see.
If anyone follows the Bucks closely what is up with the up n down games this year?
Not disagreeing with you, but just curious...what makes you say he is slimy and dirty?
I can't say I've watched a lot of Giannis outside of the Finals last year...but he doesn't strike me as a particularly dirty player and actually seems like a kinda likeable guy.
just cause you don’t like the guy?
Giannis is one of the most likeable superstars in years and won the right way

Giannis is a dirtier player than Grayson Allen has been in the NBA. If you just saw like one or two of these (and I'm sure we all did as general NBA osmosis), you might disregard them as accidents, but then you actually look at the times he's gotten ejected for and/or suspended for his conduct, and the "likeable" label should fall off pretty hard. Of course, maybe people like dirty players.
A lot of the slimier things he did had to do with his transition to the US, and there is he said/he said stuff that's not proven. What's never sat well with me is how he took his teammates' per diems to "save money" as a rookie. I understand being frugal on your first contract, but asking for hand-outs from co-workers or bumming rides from fans is gross in my opinion.
As far as "winning the right way", I'm not really invested in that point. I don't think he "won the wrong way", but he wasn't like Duncan in that regard. Duncan kept talent around him through sacrifice. Giannis stayed, incidentally getting the maximum amount he could, after strong-arming his front office into making moves and going deep into the tax. That's no different than what Kobe did. I don't think there's a wrong way to win that doesn't involve cheating, so it doesn't affect my opinion of him. But what Tim did his last eight or so years financially doesn't really have an NBA parallel.
Give each guy the same teammates, rules and compe ion and I'd probably have to give the nod to Robinson, and that's not Spurs-bias. I think both of them rely more on their athleticism than their smarts and/or skillset which is why TD outshined them both. Robinson had to play in the time of the giants. Giannis has almost no one he faces who's as big or strong as he is. If David could have had the freedom to operate as a guard, facing the basket more, having the freedom to shoot threes, looking at wide-open lanes like Giannis sees on a nightly basis, I'm not sure the guy could have been stopped. It's kind of scary to think about how good the Admiral could have been in this current environment.
When the best center the US Olympic team can place on the floor is Bam Adebayo, you know there's not much depth at that position in this league.
The only thing Kawhi and Duncan have in common is they are introverts, but they are both very different people. Duncan was a guy who liked to establish relationships with the people he played with and create an environment of team unity and bonding. This was evident from the stories we hear about him having the team get together for paintball and other activities. He also did not treat his teammates like they were below him which a lot of stars do and Kawhi also has a history of doing this.
One story that always sticks out to me is one Steve Kerr once talked about how himself and Ferry went to training camp early in the fall of '02 because they were planning a career after basketball, so Pop invited them earlier to give them some experience with the coaching staff. I think the location of the training camp was in Hawaii. Anyways Duncan arrives to training camp at the same time as Kerr and Ferry did. They see Duncan in the hotel and tell him he doesn't have to be at the training camp and that he can come back later in a few days. Duncan then tells both of them he has nothing better to do and will just stay with them. All of 3 of them end up bonding for a few days watch some movies together and have some pizza. That may seem like a small gesture, but it was big for Kerr and Ferry both were floored by it and later on ended up having big games for the Spurs during the playoffs in '03. Stuff like that matters in the long run for a le team.
Kawhi would have never done something like that. He's the type of guy that works hard at the office and leaves but doesn't want to have relationships with anybody. There is nothing wrong with this approach, but it is terrible if you are trying to be a leader and can cause dysfunction on a team.
