Pretty solid strategy tbh. He knows the most hardcore will always follow him but if he can get the Christians to second guess themselves he might dig into the Evangelical vote.

Nah. The evangelicals are -eating, cousin- ing crackers who want an authoritarian dictator to slaughter their enemies. Trump’s transgressions show there is no line he isn’t willing to cross. They don’t care about “family.”

He handed the evangelicals the SCOTUS they have been praying for. There is all kind of diety works in mysterious ways nonsense to rationalize it. Rank and file who were not already repulsed by him are unlikely to change. The leadership is pig in happy with his work.

Trump looks to be dealing with a string of civil and criminal cases over the next couple of years. His character being at this point is a conceded issue. What he did was deliver the archconservative judiciary and the biggest tax cuts since Reagan.

As a former Evangelical, I can say that there are many that know they are ignoring a lot of what they stand for to follow Trump. They may not say it out loud right now, but they are quietly looking for a way out. There's a fairly large group that might warm up to the idea of a family centric conservative that represents the values they want to get back to.

Meh white evangelicals stand for white supremacy and all the god and family talk is just PR, same way all the GOP stands for is tax cuts for the rich while the talk about deficits is PR.

Can't recall the recent survey, but the gist was that Christian iden y politics are relatively more decoupled from churchgoing than formerly. Benefactor's hypothesis kind of makes sense to me in that light, if the survey is accurate. Seems plausible that the vogue of Christian iden y as a political ideology may not be strictly related to being a religious communicant.

This would be consistent with most of my relatives who voted for Trump.
But good point concerning what Trump (actually McConnell) did for them in the SC with abortion.
    But thats done. hmmmm....

The only reason Evangelicals wouldn't follow Dennison is because they think he can't win (especially after decisively losing to Ole Joe)... there's really nothing else to it.

Pretty much this. Evangelicals historically have never really cared about the character of the politician as long as he promises them power. I mean, they voted for Reagan twice and over a Southern Baptist Sunday school teacher Jimmy Carter

People wonder how Hispanics can end up with white supremacist-curious beliefs? Look to evangelicalism’s advances into that culture.

Conservatives hate Hollywood except when they run for office on the R ticket.
