US military in Guyana to boost capability in response to security threats

The top brass from the United States Army’s 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade (SFAB) and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) have been engaged in talks since Monday, as a specialised unit of the US Army is currently in Guyana to conduct joint training exercises for the furtherance of a military alliance.
SFAB, which is a specialised unit of the US army that has assisted allies of the US in the past, arrived in Guyana this week. It is expected that they will conduct several joint training exercises with the GDF to strengthen its capacity and capability at the tactical and operational levels. This is particularly important considering the threat Guyana faces from Venezuela on the border.

    ...

On December 3, Venezuelans will go to the polls in a public referendum to tell their Government if they agree with Caracas’ position to incorporate the disputed Essequibo territory as part of Venezuela, rename the state Guyana Essequibo, and grant its population, currently Guyanese nationals, Venezuelan citizenship.
“We will not go to war!” Torres reiterated while adding “We will not fall into provocation, we are a people of dialogue, we are a peaceful people!”
Torres several times reiterated that war is “out of the question,” the Guardian reported.

Venezuela-Guyana dispute: Maduro mobilizes the army and announces annexation of Essequibo

Via a law announced Tuesday, Venezuela will create a new province or state in the disputed territory, having already appointed a single provisional authority: Major-General Alexis Rodríguez Cabello
    Nicolas Maduro Venezuela

Two days after the referendum on Essequibo, a territory disputed between Venezuela and Guyana, the government of Nicolás Maduro is moving forward to try to enforce what was approved Sunday in a vote that registered almost no participation in the streets but which Chavismo hailed as a victory with 10.4 million voters, reawakening a crisis of credibility in the country’s electoral authorities. In a television appearance Tuesday, Maduro presented a new official map of Venezuela with Essequibo incorporated, without the disputed delimitation, during a Council of State in which he announced a series of measures and upcoming legislation to cement Caracas’ possession of the territory and its resources. Earlier, Maduro had sent a military contingent to Puerto Barima on the Venezuelan Atlantic border, close to the limits of the area under claim.

hard to imagine the US won't try to protect ExxonMobil's sweetheart deal with Guyana.

ExxonMobil said the deal would continue to generate billions of dollars of revenue for Guyana. Yet the investigation found its government had reported it made just $309m (£225m) from the projects since they began, while ExxonMobil and its partners had brought in roughly $1.8bn, according to Tom Sanzillo, director of financial analysis at the IEEFA.

Ole Joe is flexing; Maduro will bend the knee

The United States has said it will conduct joint flight drills with Guyana amid growing border tensions between Guyana and Venezuela.

The long-running dispute over the oil-rich Essequibo region, which is being heard by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), escalated over the weekend when voters in Venezuela rejected the ICJ’s jurisdiction and backed the creation of a new Venezuelan state.
