Don't be too surprised if Young is in '06 draftBy Len Pasquarelli
    ESPN.com
    Archive

For those who missed the appearance by Vince Young on "Pardon the Interruption" this week, well, let's just say the University of Texas quarterback wasn't exactly steadfast in reiterating his previously stated stance that he will return for his senior season in 2006.

And that's because, not surprisingly, the Heisman Trophy candidate is considering his options.

In fact, ESPN.com has learned that Young and his family, with one wary eye on the NCAA rules concerning his eligibility and the other on the first round of the '06 NFL draft, have begun to consider potential agents. Not consider in the sense that they are winnowing down a laundry list of suitors, or even auditioning any potential representatives, although that latter element could change as soon as Saturday, following the Big 12 le game. Rather, the family, in a much broader sense and well within NCAA guidelines, is listening to recommendations and designing an interview process in the event that Young ultimately decides the NFL siren song is simply too tempting.

They take Bush. They don't have a line to protect any QB they would draft. Somehow D. Davis can rack up decent yards with that ty line, imagine what Bush could do.

They should take Bush, but can you imagine how excited the Houston fans would be if the Texans drafted their hometown superstar.

If they could turn the #1 into some real help for the Oline, perhaps not taking Bush would make sense. Perhaps. The NFL isn't the NBA, but I would think the team would take the talent and then work with what they have left to improve the line.

Taking Young would not only help the Texans in their market, but also help them make some huge inroads in Cowboys dominated SA-Austin.

I thought it was common knowledge that Denny Green wanted VY in Arizona.

Leinart is overrated. He will be ok in the NFl, but nothing special. His Arm strength is average, and the guy has no athletic ability. He's a better version of Ken Dorsey, but that's it.

Vince is not ready to play NFL quarterback. He still needs to throw the ball a couple of more thousand times. Otherwise, he's going to wind up at receiver.

I sort of agree with 2 cents. He needs another year to be a real QB first round pick. Otherwise he gets these converting picks. Assuming he really wants to be QB, he should stay another year. But if he is definitely gonna go first round I wouldn't blame him for jumping at the opportunity. Lets just hope that some weasel agent doesn't talk him into going pro, only to get drafted in the later rounds as a WR.

I'd think that he'd go first round regardless, there is too much athleticism to drop down to the lower rounds.

Doesn't this seem like old news? I could've swore i heard the announcers say during the broadcast of Saturday's game that VY reiterated he was returning for his senior season. Anyone else hear this during the game?

Vince has said every game he is coming back for his Senior year. He even said it again Saturday.

I did see him on PTI and he seemed like he might entertain going pro. I believe the story is fairly accurate considering his responses on the show. He'd be dumb not to look into it, but again, it would do him well to stay.

trade carr's broke ass and use the extra pick(s), extra cap room, and whatever extra you'd get for carr to get at least 3 OLs
Sad to say, Carr wouldn't get you dominating offensive linemen unless they have physical problems and are about to fall apart, because they can't be had, period. You've got to go back to the tree and grow your own. The downfall to that is that there are very few offensive linemen that are true superstars (at least to coaches and teammates), and they don't get traded unless you offer something exhorbitantly lopsided in exchange. A game changing offensive lineman is the prized possession of the franchise for many, many years.

With Bush on the table unless you can get proven help for the Oline you're better off taking him and then using your remaining assets to improve the line. Not sure how the Texans look with respect to the cap and who is available in free agency.

Carr looks like regularly, as would most NFL QBs with that line. There really is not an impetus to move him other than to make moves for the sake of making moves. Give Carr more than a second to make a decision with the rock, with Davis and/or Bush in the backfield and Johnson and Gaffney out wide and you have a nice looking offense. Could use a decent TE though.

get 2 guys in the draft and one through free agency
Again, you need to fill 5 interior linemen spots with limited talent available every year in the draft. Every other NFL team will be looking to snag OL's as well. A lot of teams who are not Detroit will be looking for a steal on an offensive lineman in any draft, much less this one.

The expansion of the league seriously cuts down the talent pool of lineman in relation to the demand.

throw some money at them; and if the o-line still sucks next year, draft more offensive lineman
That's like saying draft a Troy Hambrick or Sherman Williams every year and throw some money at them, and if they still suck do it again.

Emmit wasn't too far off with his "diamond in the trash" comment; a lump of coal is a lump of coal. Just because it isn't called a "skill posistion" doesn't mean that you don't need an extrodinary amount of skill, talent, and physical prowess to compete at that level, much less dominate. It is the job of an offensive lineman to dominate, unless you play for the Ol' ball coach, and then it is to be dominated.

I hate fantasy football. This is the kind of you get from it from fans who have no inkling of an idea of what it takes to be a successful ballclub.

    Jesus I hope not.

If anyone was ever drafted by Arizona it'd be time to Retire or hide out in the CFL for a few seasons Like Raghib Ismail did to keep away from the Colts.
