Having enjoyed Timmy Duncans run as Player of his Generation, the torch was then passed to
    Lebron
    Joker.

I am not presumptuously counting Joker out. However it seems as Wemby keeps getting better and Joker keeps drinking Serbian milkshakes and beer that inevitably Wama will become the true best player. Of note, we should not give two s who the laughable media twits pick as "MVP" To wit, Timmy Dunkar never won a DPOY award. So lets just keep the media b.s. out.

Wama this season? That might be too soon. Or is it?
Wamas 3rd season? Ya, i think so.
Wamas 4th season? Barring injury i would bet the house on it.

Others? what if Doncic gets married to a hottie who is also a health and fitness freak and works his hamburger ass into shape?
Ant Man? I don't see it.
One of the 2025 or 26 surpassing Wama? Nooo.

The Spurs will have the NBA's best player quite soon.

    But that's not the question.

The question is, what will it lead to?

Thinking the Spurs fans here are going to ignore MVP voting is especially considering how much they cared about the ROY for Victor.

Pretty wild Victor managed to finish 17th in VORP, just edging out Ant for the season, despite having a very rough first couple of months in the league. Still quite a ways to go to catch up to the MVP Tier of Jokic, Luka, SGA, Giannis, and Embiid but wouldn't shock me to see Victor at that level by Year 3.

By no later than the start of '26-'27. If you look at "catch-all" metrics, historically the best player (Chamberlain, Abdul-Jabbar, Bird, Jordan, O'Neal, Duncan, James, Jokic) takes the belt or assumes the mantle sooner than the masses either realize or are ready to acknowledge.

Captain America (Edwards) is largely a media creation because they want their formulaic, cookie cutter archetype that's proven to sell.

White Harden (Doncic), while certainly possessing a better playoff or big game reputation, is otherwise what that implies.

Wembys 4th year. Joker will be older. Giannis will no longer be a freak athlete. Lebron will be gone. Edwards and Shay just don’t control the game well enough for it. It’s gonna be between him and Doncic but unlike Luka, Wemby will eat right and train right and work out during the offseason.

What's next for Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs?
The reigning unanimous Rookie of the Year will enter his sop re season with a new point guard in future Hall of Famer Chris Paul and new expectations as the franchise looks to build its roster into a contender around its generational star.
And ESPN's experts are predicting big things for San Antonio's 7-foot-4 phenom.
How many league MVPs and les will Wembanyama amass during his career? Will he follow in the footsteps of legendary Spurs big men Tim Duncan and David Robinson and spend his entire career in San Antonio? How many Olympic medals will Wembanyama help deliver for France?
Our panel -- composed of ESPN writers, reporters, editors and analysts -- projects what lies ahead for the NBA's next superstar.

Victor Wembanyama will be the best player in the NBA by the _____ season.

The race for the next face of the league is far from settled, with young stars such as Anthony Edwards, Jayson Tatum and Luka Doncic among the group vying for the le.It's time to add Wembanyama to the list.
Though our panel doesn't foresee Wemby taking the throne next season, the Spurs' big man is on his way to becoming the NBA's best player -- and as soon as the 2025-26 season. Our panel was unanimous, however, in predicting that the Spurs phenom will, at some point soon, own the league.
    2025-26: 15.8%
    2026-27: 42.1%
    2027-28: 31.6%
    2028-29: 10.5%

How many NBA les will Wemby win?

Despite adding Wembanyama to the roster, the Spurs ended the 2023-24 campaign 14th in the West and with the same 22-60 record they had the previous season. Though the Spurs are a long way from le contention, they're still trying to build a stronger team around their budding superstar.
But winning an NBA le is no easy feat -- and only 12 players have won six or more rings, with Bill Russell (11) holding the record. For now, our forecast narrowly predicts Wembanyama claiming two rings -- joining the likes of Bill Walton, Kevin Durant, Wilt Chamberlain and Kawhi Leonard.
    One le: 26.3%
    Two: 36.8%
    Three: 31.6%
    Four: 5.3%

How many MVPs will Wemby win?

With massive expectations entering the league last season, Wembanyama responded by claiming the Rookie of the Year award, becoming the sixth player in NBA history to do so with a unanimous vote. He was also a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year and the first rookie to make the NBA All-Defensive first team.
But the accolades won't stop there as Wembanyama has his sights set on the MVP award -- something he believes is a good barometer of team success.
Only nine players in NBA history have claimed three or more MVPs, and a majority of our panel has Wembanyama eventually sitting among an elite group that includes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (six MVPs), Michael Jordan (five), Bill Russell (five), LeBron James (four), Wilt Chamberlain (four), Larry Bird (three), Nikola Jokic (three), Magic Johnson (three) and Moses Malone (three).
    One MVP: 10.5%
    Two: 15.8%
    Three: 63.2%
    Four: 5.3%
    Five or more: 5.3%

The Spurs will finish _____ in the Western Conference in 2024-25.

After going 22-60 in Wembanyama's rookie year, the Spurs have their eyes on a playoff spot in the crowded Western Conference postseason picture. With the amount of talent in the West as well as a roster lacking a lot of postseason experience, a top-six seed might be out of the question for the Spurs next season, according to our panel.
But don't fret, San Antonio, a spot in the play-in was the big winner at nearly 80%.
    In the play-in tournament (7-10): 78.9%

    Outside the postseason (11-15): 21.1%

2 more years. Wemby is more skilled than any above mentioned. What he is lacking is strength to impose it. And he should get there by 26-27 season.

I think 2025-2026 is on the aggressive side, but I could see it. He’ll turn 22 about halfway through that season…looking at some other historical greats in their 22 year old season:

‘07 LeBron: wasn’t quite there IMO - I’d say the next season is when he officially became the best in the league

‘95 Shaq: came 2nd in MVP voting, to be fair he probably had an MVP-caliber season if it weren’t for prime D-Rob and Hakeem dominating at the same time

MJ missed his 22-year old year with the foot injury. Was runner-up to MVP in his 3rd year…same as Shaq though, was certainly an MVP-caliber season

‘99 Duncan finished 3rd in MVP voting. Although I guess if prime Shaq isn’t in the picture he probably has a more legitimate claim

‘82 Magic didn’t finish top 5 in MVP voting

Kareem is a freak and the era was much different but he came into the league at 22 and finished 2nd in his first year Won MVP the next year

Hakeem came into the league at 22 but wasn’t really MVP caliber until much later

All in all, I think the answer heavily depends on how you view the current crop of NBA superstars. Do I think 2025-2026 Wemby is going to beat out some of the past few seasons we’ve seen from Jokic or Giannis? Ehh, probably not. But those guys most likely aren’t going to be doing that in 2 years, and as TD21 pointed out the current group of guys being touted as “the next face” aren’t truly that caliber IMO. SGA/Luka are incredible but seems like there’s a bit of a void after those two.

TD was the MVP in '99. There is no way that Karl Malone was better than him that season. That was a complete screwup that he didn't win MVP that year. If you had any doubts, Tim proved it in the playoffs.

The votes had to be in on Friday morning, and Tim led the Spurs to a B2B2B win over the long weekend, including a win in Utah to clinch the 1 seed.

It’s a regular season award. Feel like Shaq should’ve been over Malone but guess it depends on how much you weigh team success.

Timmy Duncan doing 29/11 in very low scoring games with DPOY type defense as the Spurs swept Shaq and Kome 4-0 in Round 2.
