can someone plz explain why spurs players constantly drop & collapse on defense why do the defenders constantly leave their man wide open to help on a drive or pick & roll when u have a dpoy candidate in the middle......

the latter is probable with the coaching staff more focused on politics than teaching.......

Pick and roll defense along with poor rotation is a major problem. Fixing these two things alone would help make a huge difference. Either they’re unsure on when to switch or it’s being overlooked by the coaching staff. There seems to be a lot of confusion in this area.

Thankfully this should be something they can fix and make huge strides towards improving.

Wemby at times looks too eager for the block. Sticking to your assignment should be a priority.

Both. I'm of the mind that Sochan should have picked up Brooks since Wemby is the shot blocker AND Sochan is completely behind the screen. If Victor doesn't rotate it's a walk in layup.

its top down. poor coaching and attention to detail from the coaching staff leads to a low iq product on the court.

id go easier on the coaching if its rookies and second year players making these mental mistakes. but why doesnt keldon get the danny green/lonnie walker treatment of getting benched for making one dumb mistake?

the drop coverage is really getting annoying and that has to be a coaching preference. Pop is washed and he has been for awhile. the game passed him by years ago. All of Spurs fandom owes him a debt of gra ude for his past success but that is all behind us, he needs to retire and let someone young with fresh ideas take over.

drop coverage isnt inherently "wrong"... but its a question of execution. you have to have help defenders ready, and the player getting screened has to be ready to rotate over to help the helper

it also works with wemby's length because he can often succeed in playing both the ballhandler and the roll man by staying somewhat in between them. of course if the ballhandler is an aggressive rim attacker like jalen green or say, lebron, and the roll man is a big/athletic finisher, then its almost impossible to pull it off well.

duncan famously failed at this all the time when trying to defend nash/stoudemire pick and rolls.

collins has actually had some good moments hedging and recovering, though not perfect at it. would actually be a sign of progress if pop plays to these guys' strengths. let wemby play in drop and take away as much as he can, but dont leave collins on the island like that.

These days coaches are figureheads and fall guys so I’m gonna go with more Low BBIQ.

It’s only going to get worse once Vassell gets back and we can watch him try to chuck over 3 defenders in crunch time
