The legal war over President Trump’s blizzard of executive actions is intensifying, with new lawsuits and fresh rulings emerging now day and night.

Judges are already making their mark: As of Saturday, eight rulings have at least temporarily paused the president’s initiatives. Other cases have not been decided. No matter the initial rulings by judges, many decisions are likely to be appealed, and some might reach the Supreme Court in the months to come.

The dozens of lawsuits fall into four main categories.......

    revenge can be self-undermining

As we see all of these lawsuits being filed in D.D.C., it’s interesting to think about how Trump’s commutations and pardons of the January 6 defendants had the (surely unintended) effect of creating a lot of extra capacity on that district court’s docket…
It’s possible that Mr. 1.25-Dimensional Chess did not precisely calibrate the impact of instantly infuriating the judges in the district most likely to address administrative law challenges to executive action.

    revenge can be self-undermining
Of the 45 suits filed, only 4 are in D.C., where the J-6 cases were being heard.
