I caught myself daydreaming while watching the Spurs getting pounded by the ing Rockets, thinking about beating the odds and getting the #1 pick. Then I thought, would I just take Flagg, be happy with him and get him on the road with Wemby, or would there be a hypothetical trade I'd do to improve the team short term.

Ultimately I landed on the question, would I trade the pick an salarie fillers for someone like Franz? Wagner is on contract through the 29/30 season (salary 38M next year, 51M final season) will be 24 at the start of next season and woul be a nice fit next to Wemby. Also he already has experience playing next to a dominant big, although Wemby is way better than Banchero.

Imagine a core of Fox, Castle, Franz and Wemby...

Or do you think Flaggs ceiling is too high to give up on him, even for a player like Franz? If so, which player would you trade the hypothetical #1 pick for? I'm talking about (semi) realistic scenarios here, nothing like #1 for Shai or something like that.

I’d keep Flagg and build around him and Wemby over any realistic trade. They fit together nicely on so many levels.

If it’s pick 1 for Shai or Luka or Giannis, then yeah sure, but for the lower levels like Franz, JJJ, etc. - no way. Don’t think the other teams would be willing to trade top 5 - 10 players for Flagg and restart though.

Probably the most semi-realistic trade would be Flagg for Jaylen Brown. It’d be a no for me.

You keep Flagg, because of rookie contract

This, but yeah Franz is the one I'd love to become a Spur as well (but well I'm German).

The good news is even if we get the number 1 pick we won't be drafting Flagg cause then how is Sochan supposed to get minutes ?

I love Franz and I'd love him next to Wemby, but I wouldn't trade Flagg for him.

Flagg's floor is already too high to even think of trading him for Franz, much less Flagg's ceiling.

It’s a reasonable question, especially if you expect Wemby to come back 100% and continue to be a star for the next decade.
But we don’t know Wemby’s future with absolute certainty.
I think you take Flagg because in the worst case scenario you can rebuild around him.

No way I'd trade the #1 pick for Franz, who I love for us. However #5 pick or worse? Probably would do that.

What do you think is Flagg's ceiling? I think I read somewhere Scottie Pippen would be a comparison.

Flagg's ceiling is insane. He just turned 18 in december. He's just a kid doing what he's doing and getting better and better every game. I would say hall of famer is his ceiling. I would not trade him for anyone less than a top 5 player.

So Flagg is not another Great White Hope? He's legit? Haven't watched any college ball for some time now.

Hard to say, but his floor should be quite a bit higher than Prime Kirilenko for example.

I mean dude has a PER of nearly 30 and the one big knock on him coming into the season was he couldn't shoot the three, which he is hitting at a 37.5% clip at Duke.

I'm hoping a bunch of rumors swirl up about the Spurs trading for Franz, only for us to acquire Mo.

I want to relive the "Spurs sign Collins in FA" summer all over again.

How's Flagg defenseively? I'm guessing that's part of high draft prospects right?

He was going to go #1 overall on his defense alone when his shooting was still in question.
