United Farm Workers — the labor union created from the 1966 merger of Chavez’s National Farm Workers Association and the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee — issued a separate statement Tuesday, calling the allegations “deeply troubling” and "incompatible with our organization’s values.” The union characterized some of the reports as “family issues” that it is not its place to comment on but did address wider-reaching allegations.
