Just like Rudy T did, right?Preliminary word was Van Gundy was stepping down due to personal reasons.
We all saw this coming ... the first firing of the season, wonder who Barkley's pick for first fired coach was?
I know, it's not Spurs related, so move it if you want :

MIAMI -- Two years after stepping down as Heat coach, team president Pat Riley is on the verge of resuming the position.
The Heat has called an 11 a.m. Monday media conference at AmericanAirlines Arena, where Riley is expected to take over for Stan Van Gundy, who has led the Heat deep into the playoffs in his two seasons with the franchise.
Meanwhile, a team source said Coach Gundy has resigned, the Associated Press reported around 9 a.m.
The Heat is 11-10 and in first place in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference. The team on Sunday regained the services of Shaquille O'Neal, after the All-Star center missed the previous 18 games with a sprained right ankle.
Preliminary word was Van Gundy was stepping down due to personal reasons.
Riley had stated in the offseason he would take a more active involvement in the team, but also vehemently denied that would include a return as coach.

I hear he has some medical issues stemming from the knife in his back.Preliminary word was Van Gundy was stepping down due to personal reasons.

I knew they signed Walker and Williams for a reason. What a thinly veiled setup. No one can make that lineup work. Wonder how long before Riley trades their asses.
gee...what a surprise...![]()
That's clearly not fair considering the big donut hasn't played much, still I thought D Wade could lead his team to a better record. I guess I was wrong.
Rumor has it that Shaq also had a role in this, having not been happy with Van Gundy since last year's ECF exit because he didn't feel the offense was run through him enough.
If that turns out to be true, I wonder if he'll be spared any of the criticism Kobe was given for influencing the Lakers to let Phil Jackson go.
Stan the Man knew he would not last this year as the coach.
Shaq has always appointed himself as the GM for the teams he played on. When he was here he got rid of EJ, Nick and Elden because they were soft in his eyes. He also got Malone and Payton. I'm sure he was behind this move and he would tell you straight up. Criticism, no that's only for Kobe, everyone else gets a free ride.
Umm yeah I think this is another fake thread umkay great.
Heard he was wanting to make a comback in the adult film industry

Umm yeah I gonna need you to go ahead and come in today great.
I notice he waited for Shaq to come back...
Man, this is shades of the Bob Hill firing. The team's superstar is injured, the GM steps in on the eve of his return, relieving a coach that got the team to the conference finals.
I just hope that the change in coaching doesn't spell the same kind of turnaround for the Heat.
Very true.
I actually feel bad for SVG. He's a great coach and has really carried the Heat far past 2 seasons. It's not his fault players don't live up to their expectations.
I don't expect a huge turnaround by the Heat due to Riley's coaching...more so due to Shaq returning to the lineup. They still aren't going to get past Detroit. Wonder what Riley will do then?
I bet the Van Gundy replaces whatever coach gets fired next in the NBA. I'm sure many teams would look to pick him up as their head coach.
Riley is a practice freak. Back in the day he was known for putting on the hardest practices in the league...It will be interesting to see how Shaq and Payton take that if Riley reverts to form...
I now have my favorite team to hate by far as I cannot stand Riley on the sidelines.
This should be good for the rest of the East. I don't see Riley doing a better job than VanGundy did. The Heat and the Pacers are shooting themselves in the foot. Detroit should walk through the East this year.
It's la raison du jour...or la raison de l'année...or la raison de la décennie. Everybody's using it, even the politicos and the CEOs getting fired. It's populaire.
I don't know what this French boy just said, but it sounds pretty cool.
The French language rocks. I think he could have said that he just soiled himself and it would probably sound cool.
Awesome, Panache100!
