    Evolution

The game of basketball has evolved over the years. Players have evolved. Guys have gotten stronger, faster, and more explosive. 20 years ago the flashy dunk was unheard of. Now it's an expectation when a guy gets an open lane and several players make it seem like they do it with ease. An emphatic block can be scene once a game, not once a week. Guys can shoot from 35 feet with the same mechanics as a 15 footer. However there is one thing that has stayed the same. The stinking court! We need expansion!

I know there will be folks who say "gyms are currently sized for 94 by 50" or whatever. "It costs too much for renovations". At the same time, you have 6'11" PGs, 7'2" three men, and guys so fast they get up the court in 3.5 seconds. Players are too big, strong, and fast for the current court size. I want 100' by 60'! Hear me out.

60 feet from sideline to sideline allows for the 3 point line to be moved back. 25' on each sideline. This gives the necessary court space to operate without running over someone every time. Also, with the 3 point line so far back, either your percentage will drop, or you'll be less likely to shoot'em if you can't. I know I'd be about 10% from the arc and I can consistently hit 4 of 10 from the current arc. Ok...3 of 10. Driving and slashing will be easier. 100' is just a round number. End to end spacing would need to be 110' for true spacing.

Some of the drawbacks include cardio fatigue. But that's great since we'll see some teams actually EXPAND their rotation! We pay to see Lerbon full of energy. I won't feel cheated if he has to rest a little bit and get his energy back, as long as he plays hard! Right now, many defensive rules have been relaxed and we still get 73-62 slugfests. People think it's poor shooting. It isn't. I've seen guys in person in the NBA make 10 of 10 on the outside only to brick the same shots in games because they have a 6'8" guy with a 40" vert flying at them every time. When you're finally open, you're thrown off by shooting so many contested shots, being open becomes disorienting (I was a 52% FG shooter career and I back ironed many a J).

In 15 years, NBA players will be too athletic for the current court. We're pushing it now. It's time for the facilities to evolve with the players!
Would something like this even be touched by the league... Would it make the Spurs a better or worse team??? as in what team would benefit/hurt the most if a change like this took hold???

I don't know how they would remodel all the stadiums. For the Spurs, I think it would be worse, teams can stop the driving in with zone defeneses or just clogging up the lane so I don't want our players taking harder shots.

I don't know if the size of the lane would change.... I'll have to ask Terraun if that was implied or untouched....

He replied that the size of the lane was subject of another discussion... but for the purposes of his proposal, would stay unchanged.

there was an article last year just to widen the court by 8feet, not the length. counter-argument was, without re-doing/new building, the loss of 2 or 3 rows $500 court-side seats.
