The NBA season is already one fourth of the way through. Here are some Fact/Fictions about the Spurs and the NBA:

    1. Parker is a Top 5 Point Guard in the league, and will stay that way.

    2. Tim Duncan's averages will stay about the same, but will be quite a bit higher in the Postseason.

    3. Ginobili will be an All-Star after he comes back from injury.

    4. The Spurs will have a better record than the Pistons.

    5. The Spurs will have a very good road record.

    6. The Clippers will win the Pacific Division.

    7. The Cavaliers will make the playoffs.

    8. The Lakers and Golden State will make the playoffs.

    9. The Pistons will have the best record in the league.

    10. The Suns will win their division as Amare Stoudemire comes back in mid-March.

The NBA season is already one fourth of the way through. Here are some Fact/Fictions about the Spurs and the NBA:
    1. Parker is a Top 5 Point Guard in the league, and will stay that way.
Fact. He's clearly the second option in the offense, and he'll continue to get lots of opportunities.

    2. Tim Duncan's averages will stay about the same, but will be quite a bit higher in the Postseason.
Fact. It depends on health, though. But when the game slows down and the Spurs need a bucket, they'll go to Tim.

    3. Ginobili will be an All-Star after he comes back from injury.
Fiction. The games he misses combined with Parker's great play will mean that Manu won't make the team this season.

    4. The Spurs will have a better record than the Pistons.
Fiction. The Spurs will go through some rough stretches as they always do, and with Duncan and Manu suffering from health issues, they could miss some time. The Pistons, if they stay healthy, will finish with a better record.

    5. The Spurs will have a very good road record.
Fact. This one is hard to answer without defining "very good," but the Spurs have the defense, experience and toughness to win big games on the road.

    6. The Clippers will win the Pacific Division.
    Fiction. They're the Clippers.

    7. The Cavaliers will make the playoffs.
Fact. There is certainly enough talent surrounding James now, and I think Lebron will continue to mature and learn how to win.

    8. The Lakers and Golden State will make the playoffs.
Fiction. I think that the Lakers will get in. There is an outside chance they could win the division. But for Golden State to make it, Davis must stay healthy. That doesn't seem likely.

    9. The Pistons will have the best record in the league.
    Fact.

    10. The Suns will win their division as Amare Stoudemire comes back in mid-March.
Fact, sort of. I think the Suns will win the division, but I'm not convinced that Amare will be back that early. His injury is not minor.

FICTION (But if he's healthy come playoff time they'll be very dangerous)

    1. Parker is a Top 5 Point Guard in the league, and will stay that way.
Fiction. He is playing like a top five guard, but I am not entirely sold that the Spurs will get four more months of this caliber.

    2. Tim Duncan's averages will stay about the same, but will be quite a bit higher in the Postseason.
Fact, sort of. I expect Duncan's averages to drop as the season goes on as Pop will start resting him more once more and more of the new faces start getting into the swing of things. However I expect that Tim is going to be the Tim we've come to expect in the postseason, which means the averages will go up.

    3. Ginobili will be an All-Star after he comes back from injury.
Fiction. He may play as well as he did last year, but there's just not enough time left to really grab enough voters eyes. Besides, if anyone deserves time off it's this guy.

    4. The Spurs will have a better record than the Pistons.
Fact. Spurs will be dynamite down the stretch.

    5. The Spurs will have a very good road record.
    Fact. See above.

    6. The Clippers will win the Pacific Division.
Fact. That division is too weak.

    7. The Cavaliers will make the playoffs.
    Fact.

    8. The Lakers and Golden State will make the playoffs.
Fiction. The Lakers might, but Golden state is too young, and Baron Davis is too fragile.

    9. The Pistons will have the best record in the league.
    Fiction, second to the Spurs.

    10. The Suns will win their division as Amare Stoudemire comes back in mid-March.
Fiction, Amare may return but he's not going to be the game changer that everyone expects.

Right, but if it's a fact that the Clippers win their division (#6), then it must be fiction that the Suns win their division (#10), since they're in the same division and only 1 of the teams can win that division.

    1. Parker is a Top 5 Point Guard in the league, and will stay that way.
Fiction, I still believe Parker is behind Nash, Billups, Iverson, Arenas, Baron Davis, and possibly Chris Paul, and Jason Kidd... Parker is a top 10 PG in my book.

    2. Tim Duncan's averages will stay about the same, but will be quite a bit higher in the Postseason.
Fact, TD's numbers will fluctuate around 21/12 all year long IMO... in the Playoffs, I expect him to dominate more at around a 25/15 clip.

    3. Ginobili will be an All-Star after he comes back from injury.
Fiction, right now I think Kobe, Nash, Parker, Baron Davis, JRich, Cassel, Paul, are all more deserving than Manu right now.
    4. The Spurs will have a better record than the Pistons.
Fact, the Pistons have played a creampuff schedule so far and haven't had any quality wins. They still havne't played the Spurs, Pacers, Grizzlies, Heat, and got blown out when they played the Mavs. The Pistons are a great team but they are a bit overrated IMO, they won't win more than 57 games.

    5. The Spurs will have a very good road record.
Fact, I think the Spurs will finish around 28-13 on the road this year.

    6. The Clippers will win the Pacific Division.
Fact, The Clippers are a legit team. When Maggete comes back, they will have arguebly the most talented starting 5 in the league and a very nice bench.

    Cassel
    Mobley
    Maggete
    Brand
    Kaman

Ross, Livingston, Wilcox, Zebracca, Eisley, Ewing....

They play solid defense, and their guys are young and will only improve.

    7. The Cavaliers will make the playoffs.
Fact, they will be anywhere between 4th to 6th seed with the lack of compe ion in the east.

    8. The Lakers and Golden State will make the playoffs.
Fiction, I don't think both teams will make it, but neither are better than the other.

    9. The Pistons will have the best record in the league.

    Fiction
    See #4.

    10. The Suns will win their division as Amare Stoudemire comes back in mid-March.
Fiction, the Clippers will take the division.

That "Creampuff" schedule has had 7 sets of back-to-backs already (starting an 8th set today in Memphis). Your Spurs are 0-4 on the 2nd of back-to-backs. The Pistons are 5-2. I imagine the Spurs record wouldn't look very pretty with 3 more back-to-backs on there.

And our schedule started with 12 of the first 18 games on the road. Spurs fans should know, no game is easy on the road. Your Spurs losses in Atlanta, New Orleans/OK, Dallas, and Washington should illustrate that for you.

The Pistons are fortunate to have played injury free all year. We, on the other hand, had several injuries to Finley, Barry, and Manu which is our 2nd best player had pretty much been injured all year. Tim is playing with a bad foot, so its not easy playing through injuries on back2back, plus the age factor is evident in all our back2back games. Not all teams play this horrible on back2back, its just a severe case for the Spurs for some reason.

Big Ben has been injured all season. He has bone spurs in his left foot (re-aggravated by being stepped on by Yao), and he has a badly sprained ankle on the right. He is a warrior and plays through it, but he was really playing awful because of it untill the last 2-3 games. Especially on back-to-backs. Ben already has rebounding games of 5, 4, 5, and 6 this season (that is unheard of for Ben). The connection? They're all on the 2nd of back-to-backs. He is just starting to get his legs back.

Lindsey Hunter, our 2nd man off the bench last year, has yet to play a game this season with a messed up ankle. And Rip Hamilton jammed three fingers on his shooting hand. Tayshaun also had a thigh contusion that has been killing his effectivness for the last 2 weeks or so.

Trust me, every team has injuries. Just because you don't pay close enough attention to other teams doesn't mean you're the only team with injuries.

Fair enough, I just think the Pistons would have more problems once they face some better compe ions like the Heat, Pacers, Spurs, Mavs, Grizzlies.....

well, it's a little cheap to say that considering the Spurs have yet to face the Pistons, Pacers, and Grizzlies. And the Heat were without Shaq when they played them (Miami was a sub .500 team without Shaq).

You have to admit the Pistons have been feasting off terrible teams in the East thus far....

They already played Boston twice, New York, Torronto, Charlott, Portland,

There is no such teams in the west that are that bad for the exception of Portland, and we have yet to play them... The Pistons schedule is much weaker so far....

And the Spurs have played Boston twice, Atlanta twice, Orlando, New Orleans, Charlotte, etc. Every team plays easy teams every couple games.

Our schedule has actually been more difficult than the spurs. We've had 7 sets of back-to-backs, with another set starting tonight (Spurs have had only 4, which they are 0-4 on). We also had 12 of the first 18 on the road (the highest percentage of road games in the league). After tonights game in Memphis we will have already played 9 games on the road in the West alone (The Spurs don't play their 9th western road game untill January 16th).

You're crazy if you think the Pistons schedule is easy. In fact, the team said themselves that the first 18 games were the toughest of the entire season.

I think you are crazy if you believe the Pistons have a tougher schedule than the Spurs. The Hornets are not a bad team, put them in the East and they will probly be a 5th seed... Plus the Spurs have already beat a potential le contending team in Dallas on their home court, along with quality wins over Clippers, Heat, and blew out Golden State. If you stack up the quality wins along with the crappy wins, there is no way you can say the Pistons had a tougher schedule.

We blasted the Clippers in LA (where they are 10-1 not counting our game), Blew out the Kings in Sacto (and detroit), beat the Suns in Phoenix, beat the Warriors in Golden State, absolutely trashed the Bulls on two occasions (the same team that beat you on your home court), beat the Bucks on the 2nd of a back-to-back in Milwaukee, and beat the Rockets in Houston with T-Mac.

If the Shaq-less Heat at home is a quality win then we have tons of em.

    1. Fiction. By the time the year is done, Iverson, Nash, Billups, Cassell, and Kidd will have been credited with better seasons than Parker.
    2. Fact. Duncan clearly is conserving his energy. Though still in his prime, he is past his peak.
    3. Fiction. He won't be voted in by the fans; meanwhile the coaches will pick Parker before they pick him.
    4. Fiction. The Pistons are motivated to acquire HCA, while the Spurs openly are pacing themselves.
    5. Fact. The Spurs will win at least 27 road games.
    6. Fiction. Once Amare returns, the Suns will charge toward the division crown and #2 seed.
    7. Fact.
    8. Fiction. The Warriors will make it, but not the Lakers.
    9. Fact.
