Lakers' Turiaf expected to sign with CBA team

The Lakers' second-round draft pick Ronny Turiaf, who underwent open heart surgery in July, is expected to sign with the Yakama (Wash.) Sun Kings of the Continental Basketball Association as early as today.
I'm happy for him, but it's pretty scary.

    Good luck to him.

Lakers want to be sure he can play before signing him. (they have to cut someone to sign Turiaf)
Playing in CBA before coming back in NBA is agood thing for Turiaf.

Robert Traylor has had the same surgery this summer, he want to come back in February, I wish him best luck too.

    Nothing scary 'bout it.
    All is well now.

I don't think he will be setting any picks soon though!

what does setting a pick have to do with a repaired heart valve?

I would think running horses and suicides, or being married, would stress his heart more than a pick.

If the docs cleared him for pro ball, I bet it was without any restrictions on activity.

Since they crack your chest to do open heart surgery I would think the area would still be sensitive this soon after the operation.

yes, thoracic surgery, such heart artery-bypass, hurts for a long time.
But he's young and tough, and it's been 5 months.

I like how you put suicide next to being married. It really is almost the same thing.

"suicide" is a basketball court conditioning drill, not self-extinction.

    ^^^

Yeah, the Lakers have him on a CBA team to test him out and see if he's really ready to play. If and when he gets up to speed and shows that it's not a detriment to his health, he'll be joining the Lakers this season. Most accounts have him coming to LA sometime in January, but we'll see. I'm really excited about it, I can't wait to have him in purple in gold.

He and Luke are two Lakers I'll always root for. Hoping the best to him. Kid was one of my favorite college players.
