people come out to watch their team play the champs, or the elite teams. Just to see how they stack up.

It doesnt change the perception of the spurs, because those same people wouldn't watch the spurs on tv if it wasn't their own team playing against the spurs.

A lot of funny things about those figures. I'm not sure I believe them.

-Using the capacity % figures (which are a better comparison), the Spurs are at 111.6%. The top home % is Dallas at 104.7%. The Spurs' road % (and that of several other teams) is mathematically impossible. I might be something simple, like they have their stadium capacities wrong, but it makes everything else suspect.

-Spurs in last two years ranked 13th and 11th (as defending champs); I can't understand why they would suddenly jump to first.

-Detroit last year was 9th in % and 7th in attendance (as defending champs). They are 6th in attenance this year, which seems reasonable even though they are tearing up the league.

-Boston is fifth in road attendance this year. Boston??? They were 16th and 13th the two preceding years.

No doubt the Spurs are a big draw. The half-way point in the season (41 games) would be an even truer read. The Spurs have played in some large arenas. Detroit, Chicago, Dallas, Charlotte, Washington, Phily, NY, OKC.

Here's one listing I found, although the SBC Center actually holds 18,797 (not 18,500).

Also, notice that even at Road games, there are Spurs fans there (if you pay attention to the cameras pointing to the stands when watching the road games on TV and like that from time to time...and that's NOT including Eva Longoria, by the way) However, that's not to say there aren't fans of other teams (including the road team) in attendance at Spurs home games. So that might be a possible explanation why the Spurs are leading the league in road game attendance.

Then why weren't they this high last year or the year before?

And why is Boston so high?

I think the numbers are wrong.

Once the games balance out on arena appearances, these numbers will change some.

I see the Spurs staying up there near the top, not only because they have won the championship 3 of the last 7...but they have 2 players in the top 20 in jersey sales, and they are an internationally recognized team.

The actual capacity of the SBC Center is 18,500, which is why the Spurs are at a percentage of 101.6.

So number of road games doesn't account for the link you posted?

If the Spurs played 15 games, they'd be in 4th place. If they played 16 games (the max) so far, they'd be in first place.

Math and numbers don't make too much sense to you, huh?

Since the Spurs only play 39 road games, your piss-ant theory is completely valid.

As i said, I did it.

Judging from the erudite discourse that has since transpired, it wasn't the worst idea.
