If you're going Wintel, get a Centrino chipset. Longer battery charge. There is a little sticker on the area below the keys to indicate if the notebook is Centrino or not.
I need to purchase a notebook computer within the next 1-2 days. I am willing to spend upwards of $1,000 depending on the qualities of the notebook. I have found a $849 one on US.Dell.com that has over 2 GHZ and some other nice amenities, but I wanted to see if anyone else knew of a better place to check them out.

Dell 9300 is hot right now but might be more than your looking 4.
If you want to play games get a 9300 with a Nvidia 6800 256 GO PCI-E chipset.
If it's just for windows and typing.. watching pr0n or dvd's then you can get the one with X300 64meg
I like Thinkpads, check ebay for the T series.
I wouldn't really call a 1K dollar notebook a value notebook, the four to five hundred dollar notebooks are the value line.
