Spurs snap Nets' 10-game win streak
SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Even after ending the NBA's longest winning streak, the San Antonio Spurs got nothing but criticism from their coach.
Tim Duncan scored 27 points, going 13-for-15 from the free throw line, and the Spurs snapped the New Jersey Nets' 10-game winning streak with a 96-91 victory Tuesday night.
"Total lack of concentration, lack of effort, lack of cohesiveness, lack of leadership -- both on the court and from me as a head coach," Gregg Popovich said in his only postgame statement. "It was a disgusting performance."
His comments may have been different had the Spurs held onto their 16-point lead with under 7 minutes to go. They had limited the league's eighth-leading scorer, Vince Carter, to 19 points until that point........
Despite the win, the fact that the Nets scored 14 points in 39 seconds will stay with the Spurs for a long time, Bruce Bowen said.
"Right now there is really nothing too gratifying because of the way it ended and rightfully so," he said. "It wiped out everything we tried to accomplish tonight."

Detroit is coming
Honestly, I think Pop is talking his boys up for this one.
Is it nationally televised by chance?
Oh yeah you're in Canada sorry.![]()
its being aired in canada as well
Air Canada kicked Bowens ass![]()
The Spurs are shooting 47.7 percent from the field, highest in the league, while holding opponents to 42.2 percent, lowest in the league.
And we still thinks they are not playing up to their potential
Uh there not. There no were near physical enough.
Some players seem content to sleep walk through the season. Duncan is shooting to much and should be attacking the basket.
They just showed Pops comments on SportsCenter.
Hillarious!
I love Pop!![]()
Then why is Duncan second (last time I checked) in baskets made in the paint??
They have been looking rather sleepy on the court though.. Pop needs to wake them up!
Good, I think Pop really wants to use this next game against Detroit to really measure where the Spurs are at. He's probably trying to wake the team up and motivate them to play their best, playoff level basketball on Thursday.
That, and he probably really is actually pissed at the 20 turnovers and lack of focus down the stretch last night. Who wouldn't be?
I think that Pop might have taken this as quietly as he did some of the other foul ups this year if the next game weren't against the Pistons, but I'm glad that he finally has come out and said something. It's time to start getting into form. While the Spurs aren't playing as well as they could, somehow this is all like clockwork. Many here predicted a slow start and that Pop would be calling his team out around this time.
I'm glad someone seems to be fed up with the way the Spurs are letting up at the end of ball games.
I don't get what he's so pissed about. The end of the game, when the Nets began catching up, was all intentional fouling and free-throwing. How is cohesiveness, leadership, etc going to change a game like that?
Exactly, it was all gamesmanship and strategy at that point, and the Spurs just had to hack their way through it, and they did. The game was closer than I would have liked at the very end, but Tim really stepped up in the second half, and the Spurs manipulated the free throw factor better than in any game so far.
I think this is Pop just trying to psych the team for tomorrow night.
I think he's referring to the lack of defensive effort in those closing minutes...fouling VC on 2 consecutive three pt shots, letting Kidd score 4 points, letting Jason Collins (?) hit a three pointer...all of this kept the Nets

Wrongo genius.
He was >this< close to saying the team was soft.
Pop has bit his tongue for long enough, I think he feels it's time to tighten the screws a little bit.
I think he needs to lay it on them. lets see how they do against Detroit, at home. They have no excuse to screw up in this game. If they can't get up for this game then its gonna be a long season.
As I posted elsewhere, Spurs really need to split with Pistons, since getting swept means that even if the Spurs W-L manages to just the Pistons (which is more probable than Spurs beating Pistons' W-L), Pistons would have Finals HCA.
I'm sure the Pistons really want the sweep.
Also, after "record against opponent" tie-breaker rule, the next 2 rules also favor the Pistons due to them being in EC.
Probably the only serious hope for the Spurs to win Finals HCA is simply have best overall season, period.
Pistons 5L
Spurs 8L
ie, if the Pistons lose 12 more games ( 65 - 17 ), Spurs can lose only 8 more games ( 66 - 16 )
The way the Spurs, esp Tim, are playing now, Spurs winning 66 looks like a very long shot.
