This article is sure to ruffle some Conservative feathers...
The US is a laughingstock
We are failing in all areas
by Carol Wolman
Psalm 44: 14-15Imagine how the US must look from other countries! We are bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan, and being driven out. If the point of the Iraq invasion was to use their oil, it is a failure, as sabotage has actually lowered the output of Iraqi oil. We are unable to enforce our will abroad, despite having a military that is more powerful than the next 20 countries combined.
Our long time allies are turning against us. Russia is aligning with Syria and Iran, so that nuking one of those countries could easily lead to all out nuclear war. We have lost control of Latin America, which is, country by country, freeing itself from the grip of the IMF, NAFTA, and the other US controlled financial ins utions that have kept them in deep debt for so long.
Domestically, we are in the grip of a dictator and don't know how to get rid of him. Our middle class is disappearing. We are unable to take care of our own disaster victims in Louisiana. Hugo Chavez of Venezuela is giving charity oil to our freezing poor.
Although we are supposedly the richest country, our health care and education systems are poor. We have the highest percentage of people incarcerated in the world. Our voting system has been gutted by Diebold. Our politicians are awash in corruption. Our pResident shamelessly declares that he is above the law, and no one does anything about it.
You made us the reproach of our neighbors,
the mockery and the scorn of those around us.
You made us a byword among the nations,
a laughingstock among the peoples.

Gee, our long time allied Russia! How bout that for real reporting. I'm sure the
rest of her little piece is correct in all aspects.
"Our long time allies are turning against us PERIOD Russia is aligning with Syria and Iran,"
Can you read in your own language?
Not one single educated member of a foreign country likes Bush or those who follow him for religious reasons.
My girlfriend said the Bush hate was extremely high in Australia, and that was 2 summers ago.
"You vote for him because he cares about abortion, what kind of ing sense is that??"
You forgot that he cares about the sanc y of marriage too, CBF.
Oh, and I hereby predict with that comment that I will now be labelled as a 'liberal' in this forum, which I am not.
Sorry, Dan, that oped doesn't ruffle my feathers... but it does tickle my funnybone.![]()
i'm sorry to break this to you Nbadan, but USA has always been a laughing stock.
and just when we thought americans can't elect dumber president than Clinton you go and elect Bush...![]()
Actually here in Canada we look down towards the US as a shining example of capitalism and free commerce. However the Bush hate is pretty relevant up here. I don't like W, but the American people elected him, so for the next few years people should work at solutions than throw barbs everytime there's a pedestrian angle to take.
You'd think a rational adult would understand that. Apparently not.
On another note...we've always been the red-headed stepchild of the world, harshly criticised, blah blah blah, until the next time we have to go bail someone else's ass out of something. Was this supposed to be some kind of revelation?
D'ay jus jealous.![]()

That's classic Dan. Yeah, we're being "driven out" of Afghanistan and Iraq... if you listen to Osama.
We all know you're a raghead anyway, I guess this shouldn't surprise me.
I would not describe the U.S. as a laughing stock.
I would describe this administration we have these days as a laughing stock internationally.
I would describe our Republican controlled national government as corrupt.
I would describe the current administration as incompetent.
I would describe the current vice president as evil.
America is a great country and we will persevere despite the incompetence and corruption of the people in power these days. My prayer is that there is not some sort of "national security crisis" in late '08 whereby King George uses his "authority" to "delay" the election and the transfer of power.
