What is the best place in town to get fresh seafood? HEB always has a really ty quality fish and Central Market is better but pretty pricey. I just want some decent shrimp and fish that aren't nasty but don't cost me an arm and a leg either.

I haven't found any place here in SA. That's why I miss Corpus. I could drive to the T-Head and buy it straight off the shrimp boat.

Man, we used to get it from Albertons years back when they were here. I usually just get from HEB though.

Manny, Im not too sure if they carry much seafood, but Granzins in New Braunfels allways has the bset selection of meat, and it is the freshest, if they do carry seafood, they would be my bet.

HEB is about as good as it get's. What was wrong with there selection? The one I go to in Bulverde has good fish. Low slime and good fresh smell. I got some perch from Africa the other day.. good .

Smell? If it's fresh, you shouldn't be able to smell anything but sal er. All of the HEB selections I've seen are pretty sub-par for the most part excluding Central Market, but even they have some not-too-great stuff a lot of the time.

The HEB by my apartment has an awful seafood counter - when they put the food away for the night, you can still smell the week old fish because they don't even change the ice out enough.

There is a seafood market by our house. Tim's Oriental Seafood Market or something like that. I haven't been there in a long time but it's the best I've found in SA.

Sal er? Fish does not smell like sal er lol. The smell and look can tell you if it's in good shape.

Half of the fish are freshwater anyway lol.

Most of the stuff we prefer to eat is ocean caught. But the point being that sal er fish aren't supposed to smell fishy when they are fresh.

Each fish species has a slightly different smell and taste.

Mahi / Dorado is my favorite. Then Red Snapper.

I have always wanted to catch a Dorado on the Port A deep sea trips. They are somewhat rare but possible.

I caught a lot of Dorado in Costa Rica a few years ago.

I also caught a 5 foot, 90 pound sailfish -- but you have to throw them back.

My Co workers and I will be at Dolphin Docks out of Port A/Aransas Pass on May 12th. Chartered the boat, paid my share up front. I am ready to "FISH ON" as I am out of Shark and Red Snapper. We used some of the fresh snapper and had some sushi while we where still on the boat.....good ....good times...
