The New Jersey Nets look to tie their franchise-record home winning streak at 13 games when they meet a San Antonio Spurs team that ended their 10-game run last month.

New Jersey went into San Antonio on Jan. 10 riding a 10-game win streak, and lost 96-91 to the Spurs. This time around, it will be looking to win 13 in a row at home for just the third time in team history.

The Nets moved within one victory of the franchise mark, last set from Nov. 18-Dec. 30, 2003, with a 96-83 win over the New York Knicks on Wednesday. New Jersey had 31 assists on its 34 field goals, and has totaled more than 30 assists in each of its last three games.

Vince Carter led the Nets with 22 points, Richard Jefferson added 18 and along with Jason Kidd, the trio combined for 21 of the team's 31 assists.

"It's contagious," Nets coach Lawrence Frank said. "It starts at the top with Jason and goes across the board. It's looking for the best shot no matter who it is, as long as it's an uncontested look."

Carter scored 34 points against the Spurs last month, but Jefferson didn't play because of back spasms. He averages just 11.3 points against San Antonio, his lowest against any opponent.

The Nets are outscoring their opponents by 11.4 points and are averaging 102.6 during the home win streak.

New Jersey, though, has lost six in a row to San Antonio since a 91-82 win at Continental Airlines Arena on Nov. 13, 2002.

The Spurs won their seventh straight game Wednesday, beating the Toronto Raptors 125-118 in overtime despite not having Tim Duncan in the lineup. Duncan missed his first game of the season because of flu-like symptoms, but San Antonio still had season highs in points and field-goal percentage (59.0).

"It was even more important for us to win without Tim," Michael Finley said. "We showed what type of team we are with one of our main ingredients not even playing, so when he comes back it will give us an added boost of confidence."

Tony Parker had 32 points and a season-high 13 assists while Finley scored a season-high 23 points after having a total of 24 in his previous six games.

The Spurs have won the first four games of a season-high eight-game road trip, and have won seven straight away from home overall, two shy of the franchise record set from March 2-April 6, 2003.

"We always seem like we come together when we go on the road," Parker said.

I can see that. Carter has a hot temper; all you have to do is get him pissed and he'll get himself tossed. It's happened before. Watching him when he gets like that is like watching a damn cartoon.

I'm glad the Spurs are playing tonight because there is a blizzard heading for New York City with estimates of up to 12" of snow! They need to beat the pants off the Nets and then get the heck out of Dodge!!
