I think the aggies need to keep this guy if they want to be able to compete with other big 12 schools.
Missouri job draws interest from Gillispie, among others

Texas A&M coach Billy Gillispie is interested in the vacant Missouri job according to a source close to the Aggies' program.
Gillispie is in his second year in College Station and would join a long list of candidates to replace Quin Snyder who left the program last week. The 46-year old Gillispie is known as a tireless recruiter, having worked under current Kansas coach Bill Self while they were at Tulsa and Illinois.
He is 36-17 at Texas A&M midway through his second season with the program. Last year Gillispie was Big 12 Coach of the Year after guiding the Aggies to a 21-10 record. The Aggies are currently 15-7, 5-6 in the Big 12.
One drawback to his hiring is the perception that Gillispie is job hopping. The native Texan spent two years at UTEP before going to Texas A&M. It is known that Gillispie does think highly of the Missouri job and program that has been diminished in recent years by losing and NCAA probation.
He will have to get in line at Missouri. Snyder and his lawyer have finalized details on his buyout. Word leaked Friday that Snyder resigned but his players contend he didn't quit.
Other names mentioned include Northern Iowa's Greg McDermott, Creighton's Dana Altman, Alabama-Birmingham's Mike Anderson and Southern Illinois' Chris Lowery.
Snyder made more than $1 million per season but there are indications Missouri might not be willing -- or able -- to pay that much to the next coach, which would limit the pool of candidates. The school still has to buy out Snyder and is considering an extension for football coach Gary Pinkel.
Such a situation might eliminate West Virginia's John Beilein, who signed a recent extension. Published reports stated it would take $3.5 million to buy out Beilein.
I think the aggies need to keep this guy if they want to be able to compete with other big 12 schools.
They said on ESPN that it was only a rumor and he said that he isn't leaving A&M.
Yeah, most coaches that don't have serious cred & recruiting skills wouldn't touch the Mizzou job. It is going to take a big time coach to turn it around quickly.
Well, Gillispie is one of the rising stars in DI.
The problem for Mizzou in this case was that it was a lateral move at best for him.
I suspect we'll lose Gillispie in a couple of years, but it will be to a big time hoops program (like a Kentucky or Arizona, etc.).
Yeah, AHF, He is sticking around until Joseph Jones is done at a minimum.
hussker,
I've talked with Billy on more than one occasion. He's happy at A&M, and he's building a winner. He's got great recruiting ties in the state. And they're building the program around him - new locker rooms, center scoreboard, LED wraparound at Reed, all going in next year, with more money being raised to build two practice gyms out back of Reed.
He won't be going anywhere for a while, but I expect his name will come up regularly as a 'potential' candidate for other jobs, just the nature of the business.
Yeah, I ran into him just before the season started at JJs off Rock Prairie and HWY 6 (In the Kroger place there). Seems like a great guy indeed, very unassuming, but I bet Acie would dispute that off the court!
Acie probably got the toughest love of anyone on the team when Billy came in. He actually almost quit, but he's realized Billy made him a better man and better player.
I sawed varsity's horns off with him at his press conference at Reed the day he got hired![]()

pretty much any school would be a step up from aggy, even cougar high. don't insult mizzou like that at least they've won games in conference. no big time hoops program like kentucky would ever hire someone like gillespie straight from a nowhere job like aggy
![]()
Yeah, seriously doubt they'd hire him if it were the Mizzou of old.
haha

Well when was the last time the aggies were ranked in the polls?![]()
It could happen this year, definitely next. Like I said, keep looking in the past. You'll never see what's coming.
Gotta love the tu waggoners... Should have their own TROLL Forum
Who's jealous? Two years from now tu will be looking up at A&M in the standings.
just wait for those redshirts
