MICHAEL FREUND, THE JERUSALEM POST Feb. 28, 2006

The parent company of a Dubai-based firm at the center of a political storm in the US over the purchase of American ports participates in the Arab boycott against Israel, The Jerusalem Post has learned.

The firm, Dubai Ports World, is seeking control over six major US ports, including those in New York, Miami, Philadelphia and Baltimore. It is entirely owned by the Government of Dubai via a holding company called the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCZC), which consists of the Dubai Port Authority, the Dubai Customs Department and the Jebel Ali Free Zone Area.

"Yes, of course the boycott is still in place and is still enforced," Muhammad Rashid a-Din, a staff member of the Dubai Customs Department's Office for the Boycott of Israel, told the Post in a telephone interview.

"If a product contained even some components that were made in Israel, and you wanted to import it to Dubai, it would be a problem," he said.

A-Din noted that while the head office for the anti-Israel boycott sits in Damascus, he and his fellow staff members are paid employees of the Dubai Customs Department, which is a division of the PCZC, the same Dubai government-owned en y that runs Dubai Ports World.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) today sent the following letter to the President:

    February 23, 2006

    The President
    The White House
    Washington, DC 20050

    Dear Mr. President:

In support of the decision by your Administration to allow Dubai Ports World – a state owned company – to operate U.S. ports, you said that the United Arab Emirates is a country that “plays by the rules and has got a good track record.”

Mr. President, are you aware of the following facts:

Dubai was a key transfer point for shipments of nuclear components that were sold to Iran, Libya and North Korea by the Pakistani nuclear scientist A.Q. Khan.
Prior to 9/11, the United Arab Emirates was one of only three nations that recognized the Taliban government in Afghanistan.
Two of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were UAE nationals.
The 9/11 hijackers received assistance in financing their activities from two facilitators in the UAE.
The UAE remains a financial center and money transfer hub for terrorists.
Given this record, the Administration’s decision to allow a state-owned UAE company to operate U.S. ports should be revisited.
    Sincerely,

    Barbara Boxer
    United States Senator

    Boxer, Senate

Hey Dan, how come, just how come, Dubai owning a company wanting
to do business in the US is wrong, but a company owned by China
and already doing business in US Ports is okay. Answer me that. Cause
Clinton's administration said it was okay. As a matter of fact they
own two companies doing business in US ports. One is based in
Shanghai the other one in China.

Another case where for Dan, if the Bush government approves it, it's wrong, no matter what it is. If this same thing would've been done by a Democratic government, it would be right.

    Partisanship sucks.

How many Chinese attacked us on 911 again? If, China ever set a nuclear bomb in our ports, we destroy China, if a terrorist aided by the crooked UAE emperors set off a bomb in a American port who do we bomb?

No, if a Democratic President sold out our country's National Security in the middle of a 'war' and cir vented the 45 day vetting process, I would be calling them out too.
