That's too bad. Oh well, he's a pretty decent scorer, but a horrible defensive player - which means he'll fit right in with PHX.
I saw it on the bottom line on ESPN, hopefully someone will post the article eventually...

we dont need him, we have fabricio![]()
Done deal, Thomas signed with the Suns. Will be suited up for their game tonight.

Hence, Jim Jackson being waived the other day.
Thomas scored 20 points tonight in his Suns debut. 20 points with 5 threes.
Nothing else. Literally. No FT's. No rebounds. No steals, blocks or assists.
I don't even think he had a turnover.
He looked good. He plays matador defense, but his offensive style looks like a natural fit for the Suns.
Thomas has easily made the Suns even scarier.
Bad move, not pushing harder for the guy.
not to nitpick, but how can you score 20 points with 5 3s and no fts?
He actually got 2 FT attempts and made one.
He also had 4 fouls.
20 points in 19 minutes is damn productive.
WTF? He just gets up off his couch and scores 20? Insanity.![]()
Yeah, he was 5 for 8 from 3 pt range
Nash makes players better.
Tim Thomas might be better for them than Finley would have been.
You almost wonder if Nash gets into their heads. You are playing with Nash, you are put in a situation where you are expected to improve, therefore, you improve. Sort of a self fulfiling prophecy.
Great, other teams are making moves to get better and the Spurs are still paying their 2 tax exemptions Rasho and Beno.
Nice.
For Thomas, it was either the Suns or the Nets. I highly doubt the Spurs woulda had a shot with him.
Think about it, at his age, Thomas has one more multi-year contract in him. And how can he instantly increase his value? Start cashin in on feeds from assist-machines like Nash or Kidd. Drop 20pts a night.
He wouldn't get that from any other team, esp. the Spurs where he would need to learn defense before he even has a chance to shoot for 20. Plus, he'd get lost in our rotation.
Wow. I now count 6 legit 3 point threats on that team. And they don't even have Amare back yet?? That team scares the out of me. Forget the Mavs, I'm much more worried about what the Suns can do down the road. And they'll have a pretty clear path to the WC finals.

Can they play D any better than last year?
Can they be reduced to Amare and Nash with some transition d?
Can Bowen reduce the Matrix to just an x?
I think Phoenix will not do much better against us this year than last, assuming duncan and manu are healthy. If not, all bets are off.
"Can they play D any better than last year?"
I think they can play a little better D than last year, when they want to, but recently they seem to be preferring offense-first, and defense has slipped quite a bit vs earlier this season.
In fact, Suns are 25th in PPG allowed at 101, which is 13 PPG more than the League-best Spurs allow. And way below all other top NBA teams like Pistons, Clippers, Mavs.
The Suns are 15th in PPG allowed out of the current 16 playoff seeds.
Thomas fits the Sun's style of ball play more than the Spurs. With no rebounds, assists, blocks, Pop would not have played him anyway. If you don't play defense in Pop's system, you don't play at all.
Did you happen to take into account the amount of possessions per game that the Suns allow? The Suns obviously work at a much faster pace, so their opponents get more possessions...thus a greater chance of scoring at least 100.
You're right that the Suns play good D when they choose to. During games where their offense fails them, they often play pretty tight D. When their offense is incredible, they often play mediocre defense.
