*I am saying all this full-well knowing Duncan will be fine and the Spurs will continue winning rings...BUT...*

    3 Rings!?

Is that not enough for everyone?

Put yourself in the Mavs position, or ANY OTHER NBA team besides the Lakers and Spurs in the past million years! They would kill for a ring, let alone 3!

Duncan has done more for this franchise then we could have asked for. If he is struggling right now so what! He is human!

Can we STOP with the "Trade Duncan" and "Duncan Sucks" threads?

*Notes the irony of wanting to stop the Duncan threads when this thread IS a Duncan thread*

Would you rather take away the rings and have an MVP PF on your team?
.....If you answered yes, well, then either you are a Mavs fan or you should be one!

Duncan > All the lame threads about him. (yes, you clever kids, including this one)

Your sig, pointing out the population of SA.

Does SA MSA stand for (basically) the Metro area or something?

I ask because....I never realized what a small town SA is. I always thought it to be a major city.

What's up with all the knee-jerking? Tim will be there when we need him - he always has been.

MSA stands for metropolitan surrounding area. SA may be small in your eyes, but it's the second largest city in Texas (behind Houston...recently surpassing Dallas) and easily eclipses Detroit as one of the top ten cities in the country.

MSA stands for the Metropolitan Statistical Area

I never knew 1.9 million ( SA crossed the 2 million mark in 2005) was a "small town."

    Denver is at 2.3 million.

Heck, Miami MSA is 2.3 million. It's not until you add the Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach, FL MSA and the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Boynton Beach, FL
MSA that Miami becomes a 5 million MSA.

As for Detroit, while the city is losing population its metro area isn't growing any faster, it's growing by about 8,000 a year.

SA has basically annexed a good portion of the county (ok I am exagerating a little) but SA the city is well beyond the limits of what most people would refer to as a city...That's why we are one of the smallest market teams. San Antonio is a great city, but it's one of the worst cases of urban sprawl in America. Look at the google map of it. It's freaking huge...If you look north of 1604 you will see a huge sprawl of suburbs, that weren't there 10 years ago.Gmaps It probably takes 2-3 hours to drive from the northern tip of the city to the southern. I swear I have driven through some of the east coast states faster than I have driven through SA. It's a great city, but it seriously takes the idea of sprawl to new heights.

I think Tim is starting to be a forgotten Spur now that hes starting to get older and being overshadowed by Tim and Manu. I think most of us have forgotten that Tim is the driving force to this team. Ill be honest, like many of you, I thought Manu deserved last years Finals MVP. But I was equally excited when Tim got it. He deserved it. Three NBA Finals MVP trophies puts him in good company along with Magic, Jordan, and Shaq. I still got love for Tim, and I think hes still the best spur on this team

During game 7 of the finals when it got down to "nut-cuttin'" time during the last half of the 4th quarter, which Spur rose to the challenge to spark the rally that led to the win - it was TD.

His scoring and passing out of double-teams generated open looks for the shooters. If you recall from the conversations in the huddle that were replayed, he implored the team to "get me the ball" and "be ready for the kick outs when they double up".

Obviously he didn't win the game by himself, but without him stepping up at that precise time - the Spurs lose the game and Detroit wins the series.

Is it a coincidence that the Spurs end up with someone like Duncan? The guy not only is a great player, a loyal superstar that will probably end his career right here, but he is humble doing it.

One thing with Duncan, is that Spurs fans will never have to listen to is their superstar letting his mouth overload his ass.

Sure Tim is getting older, more susceptible to injury, but this team is still built around him. And by the way, how many teams have the record of the Spurs.

I don't care if Duncan is barely limping up and down the court. He has brought this city 3 rings and he should be able to play here as long as he damn well pleases.

Too bad so many Spurs fans don't have the loyalty to Tim that he has had to this team and this city.

As for Detroit, while the city is losing population its metro area isn't growing any faster, it's growing by about 8,000 a year.

Detroit would actually be growing a lot faster if it wasn't for the 10,000 murders a year.

but it seriously takes the idea of sprawl to new heights.

You might wanna take that hyperbole to somewhere like Las Vegas, Phoenix, or Atlanta, , Dallas and Houston take sprawl to the next level.

Go to most urban discussion forums and most will agree that San Antonio's sprawl isn't even remotely near as bad as most American sunbelt cities.

San Antonio is actually the 8th largest city in the United States, so I would say it is a major city.

Las Vegas, Phoenix, or Atlanta, Dallas, and Houston

I would have included those on my lists of bad examples of urban sprawl and I would add OKC, and possibly Chicago.

San Antonio is on that list precisely because it is so small. It has less population supporting its infrastructure/total size than most of the cities above...thats what I would argue defines urban sprawl. And thus the hyperbole.
