It's mental.
I don't understand why he is so bad. He used to be decent or at least a fair free throw shooter and now he has gotten to the point where being embarrassing is normal. He's practically a Shaquille O'Neal at the line.
The worst part is what Kori suggested. There are easily grandpa's and middle school girls who could shoot better than him, especially given all the practice time he has, but even without it.
It's flat out embarrassing how bad he has gotten and there is no but's about it.
It's mental.
Dude, his foot is jacked up. He can't jump for rebounds, what makes you think he's got the lift in his legs and feet to shoot?
Then he must be re ed.
I could make more free throws than Duncan with my back to the basket and my feet taped to the ground.
He's been a ty FT shooter for years, under 70% for his career.
It's not a jump shot, it's a free throw.
still need your legs in a free throw.
or else why would you bend the knees.....
theoretically no
It's not his foot or PF. He just sucks at FT's. Bending his knees a tad wouldn't have much effect on his feet and he has strong arms I'm guessing so he could get some power from there.
Ok Chip, then you shoot a free throw, NOT using your feet or legs?
You don't need fresh legs or healthy feet to make em???
I agree you need your legs. He has both his legs. I can see PF limiting his jumping, running, and lateral ability, but surely he can compensate enough to shoot 70% from the line.
I'd be agreeing with you if he needed crutches, but if he can walk, he can knock down free throws.
If one could get their arms/wrist strong enough they could flick it in, and the granny shot can be employed without the feet. Theory yes Acheiveable not likely
Thanks, at least now I know you've never played ball outside of your PS2.It's not a jump shot, it's a free throw.
Chip is working with him.
We know that.
Its all mental.
BUT, the foot comes into play due to Duncan shooting off his tip toes, and that has got to be a because it stretches the out of his foot.
At least he's able to play aggressive enough to get to the line more now,
Agreed.
Duncan looked good on O tonight at times, even on that bad hoof.
That spin move to the middle of the lane was absolute thing of beauty.
Can't wait till he breaks that back out for the playoffs.
I don't have a PS2.
If Duncan would stop being so ing stubborn with his foot placement he could be decent.
The best part was that mirage in the first week of the season when he was shooting 90% and making us wonder if he finally figured it out.
I dont think Chip is working with him. I think it was mentioned by Pop that Chip is off limits on teaching Duncan how to shoot FTs.
I dont think it has anything todo with him settin his foot, its about his hands, guys with big hands usually have trouble shootin the ball at the ft line. and duncans shot is usually flat, he should try and put more lift into it or take his ft shots like nve at 18ft instead of the line.
He has become so inconsistent I hope he hits 50% down the stretch..I almost feel it is a bonus if he hits both tries..
