The San Antonio Spurs have never won an NBA championship without two #1 overall draft picks on the roster.

    Yup.

We could have also gone after Kwame Brown or maybe Joe Smith.

Or if C-Webb had bothered to answer the phone in 2000, we'd still be set.

Seriously, though, if we could have managed to somehow sign Elton Brand . . .

Yeah, but we only had two at any one time.

Trivia question: name the only other #1 overall to play for the Spurs. (no looking it up, answer in 5 min)

    Time's up!

    The answer is . . . .

    Mychal Thompson.

Who, BTW, is the ONLY #1 overall pick to ever play for the Spurs and not win a ring with them. (Thompson won at least one with the Fakeuhs.)

    . I forgot about Lucas.

Okay, so he's the only one to never win a ring anywhere.

Was Moses Malone a number one pick? If he was he also played for us one year.

Malone was signed out of high school by the Utah Starts of the ABA. I don't think the NBA ever drafted him. The ABA draft was famously secretive (read: fixed), but I doubt Malone would have gone #1 overall.

FYI, below is a list of every #1 overall NBA draft pick. An asterisk next to their name means that at some point in their career they played on a team that won the championship. Two asterisks mean multiple championships.

    -Only 18 have won championships.
-Only 7 of those 18 were the best player on their team when they won it (Duncan, O'Neal, Olajuwon, Johnson, Walton, Kareem, Hayes).
-Another 6 were important players (DRob, Worthy, Aguirre, Thompson, Russell, Robertson).
-Five were scrubs hanging on for the ride (GRob and four guys from the 60s/50s).

If you want technicalities, Artis Gilmore was selected number one overall by the Chicago Bulls in the ABA Dispersal Draft.
