No Limit Continue to Drop the Hammer Army

Hubie Brown contends that the best indicator of how good a team really is...is points differential.

All year long the Pistons have been the top team in this statistical area. The Spurs and Pistons are now tied, dead-even, for #1 in points +/-.

    TEAM..............PPG....Opp. PPG...Pts. Diff.
    Detroit............96.67....89.62......+7.02
    San Antonio.....95.67....88.62......+7.02

It's not how strong you start, it's how you finish.

"When nothing seems to help, I go look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before." - Jacob Riis

I've heard him mention this stat during telecasts and I believe him.

That's why we will see a rematch of Pistons/Spurs in the NBA Finals.

    Detroit still looks the best.
It seems that McDyess is better and better. I hope in the playoffs it will be a diferent story.

If you look at the points differential you kinda agree with Hubie. It shopwa an average adventage by the team and 82 games are a long periosd of time (the stats way)
Now - if the spurs can get to the point where they want to be, healthy wise and more importantly rythym and playing to the potential wise. Then the Detroit fans can be worried. Spurs can fibnish strong

But that's for the spurs fans is also important. Spurs can. But it is not a sure thing because of those "ifs".
In playffs there are alwayes 'ifs'. And this year the ifs looks like this IF.
We do not have an absolute favorite this year. We remember Chicago, Lakers (3peat) that nobody thought they will loose they didn't. We had surprises in LA 04. And it shows nobody can feel as confident.

I'm freacking waiting how this stuff will end.
We are at the end of the regular...

(the worst thing is that I will be having a surgery when the second round will be on )

Remember about half way through last season when the point differential was almost into double digits, if I remember correctly.

The only way the Spurs have a chance to repeat is to win one of the first 2 games @DET, stealing back Finals HCA, which took Pistons an entire season to win. For me, that the biggest IF.

The teams are close enough, with the season edge clearly to the Pistons (but the Spurs had injury problems while the Pistons had none), that the race for the rings will be effectively a photo finish.

    Solid D,

Thanks for posting the quote. That saying inspired my username. I might be wrong on this, but before Duncan missed several games near the end of last season the Spurs had one of the best point differential's in league history...top 10 I think.

Yes, the Spurs ended up at +7.8 last season, Suns were second at +7.1. Before Tim's injury, I remember the Spurs being over +8 for quite a while there (as were the Pistons for a while this year).

For those who don't already know, Pop had that Stonecutter saying printed in every language represented by the Spurs' players...and posted them on the walls of the locker room.

It's funny how they say that if you lose on of your first two you have lost HCA. They still will have games 6 and 7 at home to win it back.

Um... actually, they have to win back HCA either in game 3, 4, or 5.

I much prefer "SPAM1" = "Spurs Peak After March 1",
to see a few more good games rather pre-SPAM weak efforts.

SPAM1 still gives Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb for the Spurs to loaf around.

Thanks for the suggestion. That is a great Simpsons episode. I am technologically impaired so I haven't gotten around to making an avatar yet.
