I'm paying a little over $100 for two cars and that includes the basic full coverage on both.

Me too. It pays to be a 30-something in the world of car insurance premiums.

As for you, T-Pain, if your driving record is good and you can get things like good student discounts, etc., it might not be that bad for you.

The kind of car you buy, however, will greatly affect your rates. Check out Progressive.com and get some quotes.

I pay a little over $300 for six months. But, I'm an old woman who drives a truck. Being female, in my 50s, and driving a boring vehicle makes my rates pretty low. It wasn't much more than that when I had two trucks on there before I sold my Mazda.

We pay about 200 I think for a POS truck (which just died so we can remove it) and a 2003 SUV, basic for POS and everything for SUV. StateFarm. Our rates may be high because John has a tendancy to get tickets.

User's is really high ... but he drives a pretty loaded Ford 4X4 and has the kind of coverage that if it blows up, he'd get what he paid for it, not just it's book value at the time of the incident.

Mine is pretty decent, but then I'm female, over 30 and I don't really commute more than 15-20 miles a day...and haven't had a ticket or accident in several years.

    We both have Progressive.

Since you are a young male under 25 ... I'd seriously think about the kind of car you're going to get and go to Progressive.com and get quotes for each of them you might consider buying (you'll get them from several companies, not just Progressive) because whoever you pick, it's going to be pretty high...and if you're financing and not buying it outright, you'll be require to carry full coverage, not just liability..and no more than a $500 deductible.

Things to consider when getting quotes...

already tried that, but they tell me im on my own.

I got a quote from progressive and with discounts it came out to 450 for a 6 month plan with an asterisk, saying it might vary. im just gettin liability, and im driving a 92 chevy beretta. seems like a steal but theres gotta be a catch.

I've found Geico's 'save you a ton of money' mantra to be a load of crap. They're always far and away the most expensive of any I've priced. From 21-25, I was with Progressive for about 120/mo.

At 25 I switched to USAA for about 80/mo.

And that's on a perfect driving record with a sedan vehicle.

If you can pay for six months or a year upfront, you need to do that in order to save a lot. Otherwise, shop around but be prepared to pay out the ass. Under 25 males are just plain ed.

As an aside, I think its pretty justified too. Looking back on how I drove when I was 21 and how I drive now there are worlds of difference. Jess says I drive like a grandma now.

I was getting rapped by the man after that little incident with Al Collins a few year back, and I was in the back seat! So I called up Fred Loya and pay $45/month. Hey, it's a Ford!

well i wont say everyone here who keeps saying if youre under 25 you get raped, is an idiot. ill go with misinformed, or even using a stereotype.
i am 23 and drive a 350z and am paying like 15 bucks more than i was for my truck. and thats for full coverage and not just the basic. i think i pay 87/mo.
i also got 4.9% interest rate on it. so i'd say driving record is a huge part.

I'm pretty sure BishopRyan, PM5K, Clandestino, Manny, King, my ex-husband were(are) all men under 25 and paying a lot for car insurance. That's not a stereotype or misinformed...that'd kind of be like experience, you know?

That's good that you're able to get premiums that low, though ... was it similar when you lived in Texas also? I know rates can very by state. Do you get some kind of military discount, too? Just curious, because that seems awfully good compared to anyone else I've seen at your age...especially for what you drive.

well, when i lieved in texas i had two accidents, one of them a total loss, within like 6 months of each other. they were both single car, as in mine was the only one, accidents though. plus i had a ticket on my record as well. it was pretty high then but justly so. i mean 2 accidents and a ticket within 2 yrs is alot.
but ive been accident free since, knock on wood, and after the 3 yr window for that stuff to effect insurance my rates plummeted. my 01 ford was like 60/mo, then i got an 04 sierra and it was like 70/mo and now my z is 87/mo
to the guy who has the lexus....DAMN!!!!
btw i am in the military but i dont get a discount for it.v
