A Khaleej Times review of the United Nations inquiry into the corruption-ridden Iraqi Oil-for-food programme shows as many as 110 UAE companies, among others worldwide, have been named in respect of Saddam Hussein's manipulation of the humanitarian aid plan.

The Independent Inquiry Committee that submitted its report to the UN recently has said that Emirates companies contracted to supply Iraq with humanitarian goods paid Hussein more than $100 million in illegal kickbacks during the seven-year period when Saddam was permitted to sell oil to fund the purchases of essential products ranging from baby milk powder to firefighting equipment...

Dan proving again my point about being partisan. If this port deal would have been struck by a Democrat, he would be praising it (and the neocons would be bashing it).

It sure sucks being this partisan. You cannot think for yourself. Simply follow the Party and its "party line".

Yeah, nevermind my intense hatred for anything Hillary and my repeated denouncation of wimpy Democrats who won't take a stand with Feingold - it's all about the partisanship!

Funny, I don't see DP World anywhere on that list.

But since you brought them up... DP World is run by a University of Arizona educated CEO, an American COO, an American General Council (Fordham Grad!), a Dutch SVP of Operations, and an American Head of Business Development.

We would HATE to see those people owning port facilities in the US.

Get a clue Dan - you are on the wrong side of this issue, just like all of our idiot congressmen.

You talk about how the Iraq war has spawned more terrorists... how well do you think the message sent by our Congress of "You are only good enough to supply us with oil, other than that you are all TERRORISTS... all of you!" goes over in the middle east?

I don't care if the Chairman was Bill Gates and the CFO was Warren Buffet. If the Chairman and Part-owner of their company was hunting with Osama Bin Laden after the Kobar Tower bombings and after he was wanted by the U.S. (as do ented by the 911 Commission), and after Osama declared war on the West, I don't want them running my ports and port security.

It's not right to ask people to surrender their personal freedoms and look the other way while the W.H. runs rod-shod over the Cons ution, all in the name of National Security, but as soon as it's not advantagous for business interests, to just forget about National Security. We must be consistant.

Then I guess we should cut ties with France and ban all French companies from owning businesses in the U.S. too. Hotel Sofitel isn't all that great anyway...

I don't care if the Chairman was Bill Gates and the CFO was Warren Buffet.
I know... all you care about is being on the opposite side of Bush. If he released a statement saying the sky was blue, you'd post some rediculous article from the Ronkonoma Gazetta saying the sky was actually fuscia under the headline "BUSH LIED."

If the Chairman and Part-owner of their company was hunting with Osama Bin Laden after the Kobar Tower bombings and after he was wanted by the U.S. (as do ented by the 911 Commission), and after Osama declared war on the West,
    Link?

I don't want them running my ports and port security.
DP World is not a port security company - and they wouldn't responsible for port security - local Port Athorities would, just like they are now. 80% of terminals located at US ports are owned by foreign companies (link) , but that didn't seem to bother anyone before it represented an opportunity to rally against Bush.

And oh yeah... they aren't "yours", they are private property.

It's not right to ask people to surrender their personal freedoms and look the other way while the W.H. runs rod-shod over the Cons ution, all in the name of National Security, but as soon as it's not advantagous for business interests, to just forget about National Security. You are right, it isn't right to sacrifice security in exchange for liberty. Yet that's exactly what everyone who opposed the port deal did. They sacrificed economic liberty in exchange for make believe security.

If anything's consistent, its your tired act.

..but DP world would have access to sensitive data about how the Coast Guard runs their domestic port inspection operations. Otherwise, I have no problems with other countries running terminals in U.S. ports.

Well Dan, you hate is well founded, cause Brother Clinton, Madam Albright
and sundry other dimm-o-craps were fronting for the UAE on the port
deal and made millions. Your hate friend, Hillary publicly dressed down her
hubby William to get in line with her or shut up.
