SAMPLE SIZE/MARGIN OF ERROR FOR REGISTERED VOTERS
SUBGROUPS:
1,013 Total Registered voters (plus or minus 4)
481 Men (plus or minus 5)
532 Women (plus or minus 5)
345 Republicans (plus or minus 6)
364 Democrats (plus or minus 6)
278 Independents (plus or minus 7)
So in the latest poll showing the great Kerry surge the party registration was
35.0% Republican
36.9% Democrat
28.2% Independent
However, in the prior
Newsweak poll from Sep.9-10 which had Bush up significantly the party registration data was:
SAMPLE SIZE/MARGIN OF ERROR FOR REGISTERED VOTERS SUBGROUPS:
1,003 Registered voters (plus or minus 4)
391 Republicans (plus or minus 6)
300 Democrats (plus or minus 7)
270 Independents (plus or minus 7)
481 Men (plus or minus 5)
522 Women (plus or minus 5)
40.7% Republican
31.2% Democrat
28.1% Independent
So this "surge" was due to nothing more than manipulation of the party registrations. But Newsweak gets to write a comeback story for Kerry and boost revenues a little.
