Does a guy whose career averages are 25.6 MPG, 7.4 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 2.2 APG, 42.9 FG%, 34.4 THREE FG%, who never averaged more than 12 PPG, and only averaged double figures in scoring 3 seasons deserve to be in the Hall of Fame?
Well I have been thinking about it. At first I didnt really think so. But after looking back on his career, I would have to say, that if I had a vote, he would get it.

Think about it. Experts talk about him in HoF conversations. They dont all think he should be in it, but some of them do. The fact that a guy with those numbers can consistantly be in HoF conversations should tell you something.

I was having a conversation with my friend about whether or not he should be in the HoF. So a little while ago I looked up his stats. Very modest, but I would still vote for him based on his playoff performances and his clutchness.
yes, he deserves it. Some of the old Celtics made the hall with lo stats too.
Is there a Hall of Fame "playoff performances" section. His career taken in totality especially with respect to the regular season makes it awfully tough.
I'd be more on the side to vote him in, but I think it's a very tough call.
You can't argue his contribution consistently to le runs.
It would be one thing if he had won 6 les with say... the bulls.
They had Jordan and Pippen the whole way...
He has done it with 3 different teams.
He has made game winning and saving shots in 6 or 7 clutch situations that would have given the other team the win or overwhelming clutch on a series.
The guy just likes to show up to work a little late... (Like 8 months)
There's no arguing what he's done in the playoffs and in championship runs. I just don't know if the people who do vote for the HOF will only take that into consideration and ignore his career stats.
Would Horry's induction necessarily leave a bad precedent????
I don't think so. The Hall should enshrine players who are recognized as winners.
Yes. If there was an award for Mr Clutch, BigShot Rob would get it most every playoff year. But there isnt. And his stats suck.
I mean, are you going to say Rasheed Wallace deserves to be in the Hall? Hmmm, bad example (only 1 ring...btw, no, i dont think he should either).

I cant name one. . That alone kinda makes me think he should get consideration. Damnit.
John Salley... but he wasn't instrumental or a key participant in every one of his team's championship runs.... Horry has been a key player in every playoff run...

He does have the one ring but if it wasn't for two incredible shots (MDM & GM5 Horry) and one incredible meltdown (GM7 @LA 2000), he might have several rings.
I think the bar should be just a TEENY bit higher than that. Horry might be worthy, maybe... the highlights of his NBA bio (cribbed below) make a little more compelling case than the raw stats Dre7 provided.
-One of just 12 players in NBA history with six or more NBA championships
-Just the second player in NBA history to win a le with three different teams
-Is the Finals all-time leader in three-pointers made (53) and attempted (135)
-Set the NBA Finals record for the most steals in a single game recording 7 at Orlando on 6/9/95
I'd say let's wait and see how the rest of his career plays out, but he definitely should at least make the ballot.
This guy doesn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame. What has he given to the game of basketball? That's the burden of being in the Hall of Fame. That's why it's named after the creator of the game and not the NBA. This is crazy; he's a role player, no matter how great he has played in the clutch. To be in the Hall, you have to be able to have more than one facet. Robert Horry is one of the worst rebounders for his size ever. I can only think of two people who are worse - Cliff Robinson and Eddy Curry.
This is a total result of the emergence of the specialist in the NBA - the Bruce Bowens and John Paxons of the world. Good for him that he does what the team asks and needs to win it all, but he isn't a Hall-of-Famer.
The standard is high to get in there, and should be. Guys who were borderline (Joe Dumars, Dennis Johnson) were Finals MVP or considered the best in the league at what they did at one point (Defense in both their cases).
Adrian Dantley isn't a Hall-of-Famer after 10 years of eligibility. Dominique Wilkins needed a second ballot. Robert Horry isn't a Hall of Famer.
John Salley won two les with the Pistons, one with the Bulls, and yet another on the Lakers. Steve Kerr was there in Chicago for 3 les, even hitting the series-clinching shot in 1997. He was also there in 1999 and 2003 for the Spurs. It's a product of the specialist era of the NBA - a guy who is asked to do only one thing on the floor, and they are able to do it no matter the conditions of the game.
Steve Kerr is the best comparison probably. Does Steve Kerr belong in the Hall of Fame? I think Kerr also has the highest career 3-pt %, if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, Robert Horry has a stronger argument. But, it's interesting to make the analogy.
Dennis Rodman still isn't in the Hall of Fame and he was an integral piece of both of the Detroit Pistons "Bad Boy" championships and the 1996-98 Bulls championships. And, his rebounding averages are insane and multiple DPOY awards. I think he's on the fence for the HOF as well, but his body of work includes some great regular seasons as well as being big in the playoffs.
Robert Horry has one of the most unique careers that could possibly still make a case for induction into the Hall. As I wrote earlier, his playoff performances alone leave me really uncertain which side to argue. It's really a tough question.
my roomate asked me if bowen is gonna be in the Hall of Fame one day just because he keeps hearing the commentators mention him all the time. i started laughing, then again, he knows nothin about basketball
