Lost in the discussions of how bad Rasho is (24th rebounder in the league, better than Gasol, Ostertag, Foster, Brian Grant and Nene, for instance)

is the fact that, somehow, we are a top 3 rebounding team.

Further, and perhaps more importantly, that we are 2nd in rebounding differential (+4 rpg by team, behind Utah which just got better!)

Its AMAZING that we could be that good, even with Duncan, considering the rest of our front court SUCKS so bad.

I just dont' get it. Oh, I know, our guards must be rebounding machines, and make up for it. :p

We have a lot of rebounding...

I mean look at this potential lineup

    5 Duncan
    4 Rose
3 Johnson III (awesome rebounding 3)
2 Sato (averaged 8 per game for xavier at the 2)
1 Gino (Amazing hustle, and we've seen him play the point before.. even if pop says he'll never do it again)

Pop needs to play Rose to make up for teflon Radosoft's shortcomings. Then the Spurs would be 1st in the league.

    Player........ RP 48 minutes

    Tim Duncan....... 16.3
    Rasho Nesterovic 12.9
    Malik Rose.......... 12.2

    Hedo Turkoglu..... 8.3
    Manu Ginobili....... 7.3
    Robert Horry........ 10.1
    Tony Parker......... 4.4
    Bruce Bowen........ 4.6
    Devin Brown......... 10.0
    Kevin Willis .......... 12.6
    Jason Hart .......... 5.7
    Charlie Ward ....... 5.5

    Litton Johnson .... 12.0
    Brent Barry ........ 5.4
    Tony Massenburg . 11.4

Malik and Rasho are a wash slight edge to Rasho. Rasho plays muuuchhh better D on centers and protecting the paint.

To the extent Johnson and Brown get more minutes Spurs will be a better rebounding team.

Bowen is not in position to rebound because he is on perimeter most of the time. He is not being paid to rebound, he is being paid to open the floor and to stay in the opponents best offensive player's shorts on defense.

Look at Malik's rebounding #s when he was actually a part of the rotation.

    Like Devin.

If you can't get it up for 5 minutes what makes you think you can get it up for 30. And Rasho doesn't get a rebound, pump fake 10 times and then swallow the ball.

Bowen is not in position to rebound because he is on perimeter most of the time
It's hard for Bruce to rebound out on the perimeter when he's purposely trying to stick his foot under jump shooters so that they will turn their ankles.

I love Bowen's game but rebounding isn't a strength. He focuses so much on D that rebounding is secondary. That means, just like in scoring, somebody else needs to pick up a bit of the rebounding slack. Taht was the value of Hedo, of Brown and to some extent Manu. Exceptional rebounders at the 2.

Other defensive stoppers and their per 48 rebounding:
    Artest - 6.8
    Prince - 6.9
    Hassell - 5.4
    Posey - 7.9
    Christie - 5.7
    Kirilenko (going to be a 3 now) - 10.4

WTF are you talking about? Rose 'got it up' for 5 years.

Your argument was making excuses for Rose because he wasn't part of the rotation.

Look at Malik's rebounding #s when he was actually a part of the rotation.
Was Devin part of the rotation? Was Litton Johnson part of the rotation. Rose's career per 48 rebounding is 12.7. Last year's was 12.2. No big difference. Point is Malik is not a superior rebounder to Rasho and rebounding is no reason to take Rasho off the floor and put Rose on. Care to compare shot blocking, shot altering or closing down the lane on D.

That's weak. When Rose was a regular part of the rotation he produced.

Also, it's not too terribly comforting that the best that can be said about the 7'0" Radosoft is that perhaps he rebounds as well as the 6'5" Rose.

Of the starting centers for the 30 NBA teams Rasho is the 10th best per 48 minute rebounder and the 7th best per 48 minute shot blocker.

Radosoft is the weak link on the team. Don't give me 48 minute stats when the er can barely stay on the court for 28 minutes per game.

He is not tough and he is passive in the friggin paint.

Rasho is a good rebounder on the Spurs. He improved in that area if you compare his stats to the Minnesotta Twolves in 2002-03. He basically traded his reasonable O for Defense this season.

Sure hes not aggressive at all offensively, but he is a very good shot blocker, and above average rebounder.

There were only five centers in the NBA that averaged more than 31 minutes/per last year, two of those weighing in at 32. Hauling 260+ poiunds and seven feet up and down the court is not a normal human endeavor.

If Spurs play without Duncan Rasho would have 12-13 reabonds per game.
When he played for Timberwolves was same, becouse of Garnett!
He play good in defens, but offens? He must be more agressive!

But i think to that Rasho is too soft, he needs to dunk more often, not just layup and then missed like in qualifications for EURO 2005(he missed layup!! )!

I don't wanna be a doofus, but Rasho is what we got with Rose backing him up. Can't we at least start the season by supporting every one of these guys for what they bring to the team?

We're gonna play this hand with what we're dealt.

Radosoft is paid to perform. He struggles to do so. Rose is paid to perform, but Pop wouldn't let him last year.

I will criticize teflon Radosoft as long as people want to make Rose the ing scapegoat.

Maybe Pop should stop speaking to Malik in Serbian.
