Don't be so confident. There are plenty of people who would still trade Tony Parker for Smush Parker and a bag of chips to be named later.
San Antonio, Tx.: Hey David , what do u think of a Tony Parker, Eva Longoria for Jermaine O' Neal deal in the summer?
David DuPree: They can't trade Parker. They need him, with or without Longoria, more than they need Jermaine O'Neal, that's for sure.
My have times changed. Two years ago, there would not have been one Spurs fan that would not have jumped at this trade. Now, you could not find one sane Spurs fan that would trade TP for JO, besides this idiot that asked the question.
Interesting, I thought.

Yeah, and the reside at the San Antonio State Hospital.

I didn't know Shawn Michaels was a patient there?
I'd be more surprised if he wasn't...![]()
I think this is more of an issue where Dupree is trying to say that the Spurs need Parker, especially with the current point guard situation. I don't think he is trying to imply that one player is better than the other.
Without regard to the teams personnel needs, I think you can certain find people in the "big men are hard to find" and "you always trade small for big" camps.
Personally I wouldn't trade Parker, especially considering how much he has elevated his game. And yes, the Spurs would be in big trouble without him even if they had O'Neal in the frontcourt. And my main issue with JO is that I know kindergardeners with more maturity than him. Add to that the fact that he always seems to be perpetually injured and the deal is a no go.
2 yrs ago, we would have made the trade and kept Speedy.
We would not do that now.
Even last year's Parker I wouldn't trade for JO. He's proven he can't be a team leader or set an example and he's way too injured every season.
1Parker1, you get not vote here...I mean look at your name, for God's sake.
You would not trade TP for MJ in 1993.

Please, even I'm not that much of a homer. I love MJ more than Tony. Jordan was my first love....

Parker's point-in-the-paint is better than J. O'neal's, so I won't trade Parker for J. Oneal.
Maybe the Spurs can get Payton for Parker.
JO has come a long way and i would not call him immature. he is intelligent and well spoken, as was proven in his PTI interview yesterday. he may not have been that way in portland, but he has come a long way. he is developing a tendency towards injury. however, i wouldn't consider trading tp for him.
Depends on the chips. :p
(I keed, I keed)
Don't blame him. Blame the siblings who spawned him.
The only case I would ever consider getting JO is if we ever need 15 year old opposing fans punched in the face.
Spurs have been plagued by injuries this season. J.O. will just be a liability. Also, even an injured Duncan commands the presence of double-teams, which suit Parker and Ginobili better.
Though admittedly, I miss those high-low post plays by Duncan and the Admiral. Nearly unstoppable when you have 2 bigmen who both are offensive threats. Spurs can certainly provide that kind of play again with J.O.
O well.

*imagines JO collapsing wolves009's skull*
Especially if it was the 2002-03 season because of all the cap room the Spurs had, the potential to bring in Jason Kidd, and having a one-year trial for O'Neal because he was a free agent in 2004.
