It was one year ago, that SA lost game 1 to the Nuggets and Spurs fans from TPark to Walton to Sequ all gave their best Chicken Little impersonations and decried the Spurs' lack of heart and guts. They were all ready to sip the grape Kool Aid and just end it all right then. Well, what happened? The Spurs won the next 6 games and went on to beat Detroit in 7 games to rip Rasheed's Championship belt right off his punk ass.

Well, this year, the Spurs catch Sacto napping and jump all over them, grabbing game 1 in a convincing record breaking manner. Now, fans seem to be measuring the fingers off the Spurs for their 4th ring, and planning the parade already. I still say Sacto will win 1 game, even though it looks like they are over matched at this point, so I am not totally geeked yet.

It seems like one game can totally alter the mood of some fans in here, from suicidal to absolute Nirvana. I find it amusing, so thanks for all the entertainment in this forum, guys.

I still think Sacto wins one in Arco. Then the Spurs finish it up at home.

But then, if the Spurs happen to blow them out again Tuesday, they may just have no fight left in em.

Jim, I believe even you, yourself, doubted that the Spurs will win another ring after those back to back home losses a few weeks ago.

You are right about one thing Jimbo...I still think the Kings will win one game...perhaps even 2. Spurs in 5 or 6. Hoping for Spurs in 4, however

Sorry man, I forgot when exactly you jumped ship.

BTW, NVE is still a ball hog and shoots way too early in the shotclock. I still like Beno a lot more, but I want Nick to succeed, I am a Spurs fan, you know.

How do you expect the fans to react when the Spurs open their playoff run by getting beat @SBC by 8th seed in Game1? "it's just one loss" "get over it" "SPAM", etc??

Spurs beat not by 2 buzzer beaters like in 03 Game1 vs Suns, but gettting outplayed, outhustled, outdesired by the 05 Nuggets. Tony didn't help convince anyone that the Spurs were mentally playoff ready by escorting Eva into SBC on his arm.

I'm sure the Nuggets Game1 disaster last playoffs was in their minds yesterday.

I expect nothing less than a solid, convinciding Spurs W Tuesday night, a blowout is not needed.

I actually thought that the loss would wake the Spurs up and get them better prepared for adversity latter on, and I was right, because they had a lot of adversity in Seattle series and in Detroit series, when they needed Horry to win game 5 just to have a chance to win the series, and also to come from behind in game 7 in 4th Q.

"loss would wake the Spurs up"

Conveniently ignores why were they sleeping to start the playoffs?
WTF does it take to get their attention?

They were obviously wide awake and focused last night, with expected outcome.

How long have you been watching pro sports, any sports for that matter?

Have you ever heard of over confidence????

Championship teams have suffered from that malady many many times throughout history, and they will continue to do so, especially game 1 of the playoffs, after a long 82 game season. Our old Spurs never came back from losing game 1 in a playoff series, in fact, before their 03 championship run, they had never won a series, when they dropped game 1. But for whatever reason, this Spurs team seems to play better when they have a challenge. They were ready for the Kings in game 1, because the Kings kicked their asses in SA just 2 wks prior, so the Spurs wanted to show them that that was a fluke.

This is why I think SA can beat Detroit, because nobody gives them a chance to beat them...the Spurs will be ready for them.

The Spurs will not suffer from overconfidence because everyone from the so-called expert analysts to the "average man-on-the-street" are expecting Detroit to walk away with the le. It's almost as if everyone has forgotten that the Spurs won the le.

That actually works in Pop motivational favor. The Spurs can play the underdog role as they often do. Meanwhile, the Spurs will methodically do what they normally do at this time of year - WIN.

They'll be ready for Sac's counterpunch on Tuesday.

    Spurs win in Five.

    "over confidence"

You're still begging the question. They were sleeping because they were over-confident, they were over-confident because ...

The Spurs were something like 6-5 last April, confidence-building?

The team knew Tim was on hurting ankles, confidence-building?

The team knew the Nuggets were the hottest team since ASB, confidence-building?

The Spurs had lost the 2 previous season games vs Nuggs, @DEN and @SBC, confidence-building?

The Spurs previous playoff outcome was the embarrassment of dropping 4 straight to the Lakers, playoff confidence-building?

    ========

At 63-19, the Spurs aren't credible underdogs by any serious observer, except against the Pistons.

I do enjoy the great number of bipolar fans on this board. Win a game in the playoffs and we're ready to sweep the finals. Lose a game and it's "the Spurs are done and so am I!!"

you, Jim. I'm stating facts, not whining.

When the Spurs up, I say it.
When the Spurs play like the Spurs, I say it.

I'm very happy with last night's very loud and very clear message from the Spurs to all comers,
    I'm very happy with Razr with 28 & 15,
I'm happy with Nick and Michael showing up since ASB and in first playoff game,
    I'm exstatic with Tim's and Manu's health.
    etc, etc.

Who TF was exstatic, at the time (not in 20-20 hindsight) after the Game1 loss to the Nuggs last year?

SenorSpur you speak the truth. We all know our Spurs need that challenge and always rise to the occasion. Sure, people may all of a sudden be kissing the Spurs ass because they dominated yesterday, but people will just as easily knock them down when they lose. True spurs faithful know that if the road is not difficult, it is not as fun to drive on it.
