ST WIRE REPORTS- Spurs suspend Parker for unsportsmanlike quickness
San Antonio. The San Antonio Spurs announced today that they have suspended guard Tony Parker indefinitely for the use of unsportsmanlike quickness in the Spurs 122-88 defeat of the Sacramento Kings.
“We told him nothing faster than a jog,” scowled Spurs coach Greg Popovich. “That kind of stuff is fine for practice, but this is a game, and we don’t want anyone getting seriously embarrassed.”
The announcement came mere hours after the Spurs suspended center Nazr Mohammed for shooting a three pointer in the closing seconds of game 1.
Asked why the sudden discipline, Popovich explained, “We want to send a message to our opponents: we can’t shoot, and we aren’t fast. We want them to think they can beat us. Saturday night, we put too many points on the board, and we want to try to counteract that.”
Parker disagrees with the punishment. “I think it’s too severe,” he said, “but you know, that’s Pop’s decision.”
Center Rasho Nesterovich agreed with his head coach, citing, “We’ve always been told ‘run slow, let them catch you’ and Tony disobeyed that. The big thing we do in film sessions is to figure out the average pace of our opponents, and then run just slightly faster than that.” While Rasho takes this strategy to an extreme, it is nonetheless a key part of the Spurs’ strategy.
Star Tim Duncan explains the suspension clearly, “Parker knows better than to dart in and out of people. He has a jump shot, he can use that, no use in embarrassing Bibby further. I mean, gosh, the dude is playing for the Kings for crying out loud! Give him a break!”
Now without their starting point guard, you can rest assured the Spurs will play at a much slower pace. The goal is to win, after all, not embarrass.

Stern is a . He shouldn't suspend Parker for embarrassing Bibby.![]()
I know this is in jest, but I've wondered at times during the regular season if there is some truth to this strategy.
The Kings might have to resort to the "Red Rover" defensive set.
Join hands across the lane and dare Tony to come over.

I have too. I wondered when the Kings came in here an beat up on us a couple of weeks ago, if that was by design?
It sure seems su ious when you look at the way the team drudged through 82 games and then suddenly look like worldbeaters.
I certainly wouldn't put it past Pop. Keep em under the radar. Make em think the Spurs are on the edge of extinction.
Then trot the REAL Spurs out for Round 1, Game 1 of the playoffs.
Very well written!
The Shareef quote about Nazr's three had me on the floor![]()
THERE'S SOMETHING FISHYY GOING ON HERE!...... AND WE'RE GOING TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF IT!![]()
Actually, this was all 100% Pop. Even in a blowout situation, Pop has ZERO tolerence when it comes to disrespectibg an opponent (see Nazr).
Who would have thought that a blowout Game 1 win would be THIS problematic? Oh well, back to work again tommorow...
Uhm...you know this was a joke...right?Actually, this was all 100% Pop.
I thought I made that embarassingly clear.
It was a joke?
And after I just slashed all of Pop's tires, too.![]()
Circus.
That's hilarious, lol. Love it.
At least learn how to spell Nesterovic right.
haha that w3as classic
You did a right thing. Don't be so hard on yourself.
Good aricle. Where are the rasho haters now?
