scabs
In playoff seasons past, we'd watch the starters and cringe when they went out.
So far in the playoffs, though, the Spurs bench has stepped it up. Not only did they have 52 points in the Game 1 blowout, but in Game 2 they had ... 52 points. Not bad when you consider the same guys averaged about 35 ppg in the regular season.
Yeah, it's only the first round and yeah, it's only two games, but even so it's nice to see the role players step up and deliver. They may not do it every time, and sure, it's scary when there are NO starters in, but name me one team in the playoffs that does well when all the starters rest.
Barry, Horry, and Fin have especially been clutch, but as we saw last night, even others can step in to deliver some spark, such as Rasho (3 blocks, 2 nicely executed buckets, 2 RBs in 13 mins).
Sure, there will be times we wonder WTF the bench is doing, but overall so far you'd have to say "job well done." Keep up the good work, guys!
PS - we need a nickname for the Spurs bench. Anyone ??
"Clutch"
Bench Capitain: Big Shot Rob
Asst Capitain: Bounce Shot Barry
The Extra Starting Five
haha yeah, "the other starting five"
We are, after all, the Yankees of the NBA.
The Barters - bench starters.
Lethal weapons 6-13?
Okay, first unit off the floor...um, other first unit, get in there.
well most of our bwnch pkayers can be starters on other teams in the league
I'm very happy in the pants when I think about the bench play...they have been very sharp for the past few games, incl. the final two or three of the regular season. I hope they can keep it up like I can.
This article reminded me of this thread.
The Spurs' bench's name: Eastern Conference Play-off Team
San Antonio Spurs vs. Sacramento Kings
The Spurs won Game 2, in part, because reserve guard Brent Barry scored 22 points, including a 3-pointer that hit the rim twice, bounced high off the backboard and finally went in with four seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
That's what elevates the Spurs from contenders to favorites -- their bench.
Barry, Robert Horry, Nick Van Exel, Michael Finley and Rasho Nesterovic are a playoff team by themselves -- in the Eastern Conference.

eastern conference playoff team gets my vote![]()
3 Point Brigade.
Everyone is a 3 pt threat. Well, perhaps not Rasho, but gimme a break, cause Rasho defies being lumped into ANY nickname for the bench.
Make Rasho a starter and put Mohammed on the bench...and you have a deal.![]()
the AARP crew. Van Ex, Fin, Rim Job, and Bob![]()
Yeah but there is no in-between for our bench. Either the light's on or off, and when it's off, it's ugly.. so let's hope the bench can stay this good in these playoffs.
