Avery Johnson has ed up the tongue-in-check exchanges with Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. Johnson won the 1999 NBA le playing point guard under the coach known as "Pop," and the two have taken to friendly barbs.
When asked if the championship seemed like a long time ago, Johnson said that it seemed like yesterday, only to add, "I wasn't very coachable back then because our coach wasn't very good."
Receiving the Coach of the Year award Tuesday, Johnson was asked how two future Hall of Fame coaches [Don Nelson and Popovich] influenced him. He said Nelson paved his way in Dallas.
As far as the other coach: "The coach down south is one of the sorriest coaches in basketball," Johnson said, intentionally not mentioning Popovich by name. "He called me, by the way [on Monday], so he needs to stop calling me."
The Mavs and Spurs will meet in the second round if both teams advance.

AJ's success and Mike Brown getting Cleveland in the playoffs are testimony to Pop's ability to teach the right way to play and coach in the NBA.

Probably because they knew that mostly Spurs fans were watching... thus making them more likely to watch if they sucked up to them a bit.

even if these comments were made in jest, its suspect that AJ doesnt make fun of Nelly that way
as for CIA Pop, he could careless what the classless Apey says
taken totally out of context.
Even implying that this is anything but a running joke between two men who genuinely like each other is ludicrous.
Avery sucks.
The only person who takes a paycheck from Mark Cuban and doesn't suck is sitting on the Spurs bench.
