in other words Artest owns manu.
These are Manu's career stats for games played against Ron Artest. Of course, these numbers have no information about how many minutes were spent with Artest actually guarding him, so make of them what you will. Still it's pretty clear that this is a subpar set of games for him.
-Due to Manu's injuries and Artest's suspesions, they've only actually played five games against each other.
-His career high points is 11, but the low is 8, so it's relatively consistent.
-His FG% isn't horrible, it appears he just gets taken out of the offense.
-He averages more turnovers than assists.
-Even if you take out last night's game, they're nothing to brag about.

Running an ISO at Artest makes as much sense as running one at Bruce. Your best bet is to make them chase their man through a maze of screens.
Manu did just fine when getting a pick from Duncan. He just needs to hold onto the ball better when he is getting smacked as he penetrates. Simple as that.

He was making a play to either pass it out, or to go to the rack.
Manu was smacked hard on both arms by Bibby, while simultaneously making contact with Brad Miller, and he lost the ball. In retrospect, to call it a steal is giving Bibby too much credit (though it officially was a steal).
It was Bibby's dig that did Manu in.

Manu's best season was last year ... and Artest wasn't even playing. So to me, this really isn't a big enough sample size to say much.
I'll give it to Artest, he's a of a defender. I don't think Bowen could guard Manu as well as Artest can.
That said, knowing Manu he'll come out like MJ in Game 4.

Combined with the visual evidence of what we're seeing on the court, it's more signficant than just saying "look what he did in game 2".

I agree it's worth talking about. I'm just saying FOR ME the sample size needs to be larger than the 3 games in 06 to declare Artest owning Manu. Yesterday's game on several occasions, Manu threw the ball out of bounds or lost it off his hands even without Artest pressuring him. So I'll wait to see if Artest is really bugging him, or yesterday he was just out of control.
I think Artest is an extremely good defender - one of the best in the game. But I'm just going to wait for a bigger sample size and see if Manu adjusts at all.
By comparing Playoff games when Manu plays against Artest. Ron owns him.
Ron made it tough on Manu on several occasions off the screen. Got a nice block at the end.
But I have seen several occasions where Manu has lost Artest on screens or has blown by him when catching the ball in certain areas of the court (not Iso's but catching the ball in ryhthm). Iso I doubt Manu could consistently blow by Artest -- but on the move, picking his spots I don't see why Manu should consistently have troubles every game.
Props to Artest for great D - and hopefully Manu won't let him get in his head (I do worry about this though).
Manu has the tools to score without drawing much attention to himself. He usually doesn't force a lot of shots, so it is really a mental game for Manu. He has to pick his spots during the game, hit the open shots, cut the silly turnovers -- and he will have a chance to be successful.
Up to him though. Artest sure as isn't going to make it easy.

Manu responds in big games. Tomorrow is a pretty big game.
If Manu goes out there and gets a lot of assists, that'd be great. I don't expect him to drop 30 on Artest ... but I wouldn't be surprised if he did.
There should be more Manu and Duncan/Horry pick'n'rolls. That play can't be defended, only with a lot of help, and that should leave Bowen, Barry, Finley or Van Exel wide open for a three in the weak side.
I agree with all of that.
03-04 Manu can't even compare to 04-05 Manu, and Artest was watching from home that entire year. Last year was Manu's best offensive year, and he would explode more often, including that 48 point OT win @ Phoenix.
I think in game 3, Manu was clearly out of control, he would have made all of those bad passes regardless of who was on him.
