    Our team is composed of:
1)big paint players who rebound, and play good interior D, but can't guard the perimeter nor be effective out there on offense
2)shooters and slashers who are physically weak and provide no help on the boards when we face physical teams (Detroit, Sac, Clips, Den) and are vulerable to being posted up.
The lone exception is Horry who is in between these two categories, but is getting old.
I think we need another one of these "tweeners" who can help on the boards, and avoid getting posted up by big SF and Guards, while not being useless on the perimeter.

Chuck Hayes 6'6 238lbs -- Tough, energy player for the Houston Rockets, who nobody notices and probably nobody wants. He was paid the minimum last year and is now a FA who we can pick up cheap. Think of a less athletic Rodman without the drama.
Our offense wouldn't suffer much if we play him with 3 of our shooters/slashers, especially when TD is playing too. If he can develop a nice mid range shot he could fit in any lineup.

    Age 23

    Strengths
-- 2nd in the NBA in orpg/48 minutes
    -- 10th in drpg/48 minutes

-- can guard the perimter as well as the interior (against taller players)
-- smart player, only takes good shots, picks up garbage points nicely

    Weaknesses
    -- can't shoot

We have to bring over Scola and Javatokas.

Say goodbye to Nazr and start to have Horry fade into the sunset.

    Artest is too expensive.
He's not too short. Plenty of short, stout players are effective inside. i.e. Barkley, Rodman, Bonzi, Kenny Thomas.

By good shots, I mean good FGA. It's not a contradiction at all.

False, he will be a RFA : Houston will likely match any cheap offer.
Hayes is a PF and not a SF too.

If you want a big SF, Jumaine Jones is the answer : quite young, good rebounder, good defender, can shoot 3's... a good role player.

It doesn't matter whether he's a SF/PF/C/G, whatever. The point is that he can rebound with the best inside, while still playing good perimeter defense. This is the problem with all of our rebounders. They can rebound, but get exploited by perimeter players.
Jumaine Jones is already over hyped and will comand a big contract. Besides, we don't need more 3 points shooters and he's not nearly the inside presence Hayes is.
Why would the Rockets make a big effort to get Hayes? They're looking for shooters not inside players.

Hayes is too short to defend on players like Dirk, he will be too exploited by perimeter players.
Jones won't be too expensive : I doubt he will receive more than $20M/5years.
Rockets will likely keep Hayes as 4th or 5th bigmen. There aren't shooters available via FA that are worth the full MLE and they will use their pick on a SG.

Hayes is decent. He's young and has potential. He's a very good rebounder for his size and does a lot of his damage inside. The Spurs will probably look for a guy who can shoot from the perimeter as well as defend though. I don't know if they will look for someone who just works in the paint.

I wouldn't exactly call Jumaine Jones a good 3 point shooter. What's he shoot from 3? 33% or so? He's the size of player that the Spurs will look for but he's already 27. They might go for someone younger that they can groom.

It will be interesting to see what they do this summer. They have to get younger and taller in the 3 spot. Plus if Nazr walks, they'll have to address that as well.

How many of you recall when we shipped Steve Kerr to Portland for Steve Smith, Indiana was interested in some sort of deal where they ended up with Steve Smith and we would get Ron Mercer and a throw in, Ron Artest.

    Timvp probably remembers the specifics.
