Hard to say. I would say D-Rob. Dude was crazy athletic when he was in his prime.

Wow, how many people taking Duncan actually saw the Admiral play at his peak? Like 93-94: 29.8 ppg, 4.8 apg, 3.3 blocks/game, 1.7 steals/game, 10.7 rebounds/game (which was actually the lowest in his career to that point) including 3.0 offensive. And he could hit free throws

If DRob had the luxury of talent early on that Timmay has, you betcha he would have had more than two rings. His speed and skill redefined the position. It's too bad the stress of carrying the whole bloody team all those years messed up his back later in his career.

Love 'em both, but DRob will always be the man ... a uva player who is also the reason we still have a franchise here. He could have dumped SA after his comittment to the Navy was over, but he honored the commitment he made to the Spurs. No DRob in '89-90 = no record turnaround = no fans at the game = no Spurs. Tim learned a lot from DRob and honors him by the way he plays the game today.

With the current linup we have now?

I'd take Drob from his prime with this linup.

I have to agree that Tim has been surrounded by better staff. Not just teammates. Coaching staff and front office.

Don't get me wrong. I love TD's game and glad we have him now. I am not bitter about Tim having better talent and staff around him. Just saying that my choice would be have D-Rob in his prime. The guy was just flat out freakish in a good way.

Each year that passes makes this choice harder and harder to make. Drob was the better defender, freakishly more athletic, had a better shot, and could carry a team single handedly to the conference finals.

Duncan has the advantages of being the better rebounder (when he is on he goes after his misses relentlessly and he is nearly unstoppable when he does that), is actually a better shot blocker (but I think DRob altered more shots than he blocked) Duncan has better post moves, and is now the better passer.

This year I would take DRob, but that may in part be to how much Duncan has dropped off from his early years. Duncan is better at his best than David though.

    Admiral, no question.

Big Dave, while not as fundamentally sound, was more effective on both ends of the floor in his prime than Duncan has been at any time, especially the defensive end.

Of course, he also wasn't quite as consistent...

DRob was never a low post threat like TD. TD opens up the perimeter and creates lanes for penetrators like Parker and Ginobili. Love to have them both but TD makes those around him better on O. On D DRob was a better backstop but overll it'd be TD.

maN THATS A HARD ONE. I WOULD TAKE TIM OVER DAVID JUST BECAUSE OF HIS FUNDAMENTALNESS. DAVID WOULD BE TAKEN IN HIS PRIME AS A DEFENSIVE SPECIALTIST.

WHAT ABOUT EITHER KOBE OR MJ IN THEIR PRIME? HOW BOUT THAT ONE
