He can learn from Joey....

MIAMI (AP) -- The Miami Dolphins saw enough potential in Marcus Vick -- both on- and off-the-field -- to believe he deserves a chance as a free agent.
Vick, the brother of Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick, signed with the Dolphins on Monday, agreeing to a free-agent deal after his many problems at Virginia Tech cost him a chance to be selected in the NFL draft.
"As an organization, we did an enormous amount of research, including consulting with professionals in detailed, in-depth analysis to feel comfortable that giving Marcus an opportunity as a free agent is a risk worth taking," Dolphins coach Nick Saban said in a statement released by the team.
"I want to make it very clear that we will not condone any behavior issues in the future relative to Marcus Vick. Marcus acknowledges that he has made some mistakes, all of which has resulted in severe consequences for him. They have helped him learn that he will need to make much better choices and decisions in the future or risk similar consequences that could jeopardize his career as a professional player."
Vick, who participated in a three-day minicamp with the Dolphins earlier this month, completed 177 of 289 passes for 2,393 yards with 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, leading Virginia Tech to an 11-2 record and berth in the Atlantic Coast Conference le game in 2005.
But his career with the Hokies included many transgressions. He made an obscene gesture to fans during a game at West Virginia, and stomped on Louisville player Elvis Dumervil's leg during the Gator Bowl.
Vick was suspended by Virginia Tech for the 2004 season because of legal problems, then was eventually dismissed from the team after being stopped for speeding and driving with a revoked or suspended license.
The Dolphins are listing Vick as a "wide receiver-quarterback-specialist," clearly indicating that he could be tried in a number of roles.
During the recent minicamp, Vick spent at least one practice session at wide receiver, and probably isn't being looked at as a serious quarterback candidate -- not with newcomers Daunte Culpepper and Joey Harrington now at that position.
Miami signed three other free agents Monday: tight end Keith Heinrich, linebacker Keith Newman and cornerback Michael Lehan.
Heinrich was on Cleveland's injured reserve list for the entire 2005 season with a knee injury and has played in 18 games since being drafted by Carolina in 2002.
Newman has played with Buffalo, Atlanta and Minnesota in seven seasons, starting 76 of 92 games and recording 407 tackles, 23 sacks, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries and seven forced fumbles.
Lehan, like Vick, attended the rookie minicamp this month on a tryout basis. He spent the last three seasons with the Browns and made 32 appearances, including four starts.
Awesome. This is a great time to be a Dolphins fan. All the tools are being placed and we're looking good for next season.
Vick will be molded and shaped, and if his character doesn't change then he'll simply be traded.
Yeah, and even that is worth more than Owens right about now.
Well... the joke was funny til you ruined it. Expressing how nobody wanted Owens like nobody wanted Vick.
Yeah, nobody wanted Owens that is why Dallas had to pay out the ass to sign him & Vick commanded a whopping $85 Mill over 3 seasons right?![]()
Vick.![]()
Do you mind if I quote you when Owens blows up in the Cowboys face?
QUOTE:
TO will have have a MUCH greater positive impact on Dallas' season than Marcus Vick will on ANYBODY's season. TO is a grenade that can blow up in anyone's face..But I'll take him wayyyyyyyyyyyyy before I'd take Marcus Vick.
Please, please do quote me.
you know what you are getting with to. he will play his ass of for you, produce, and work hard on the field. he may be a cancer in the locker room, but he is manageable. with vick you have no idea what will happen. maybe he'll clean up his act.
Exactly, Owens is a huge cancer but there are cancer survivors.
Marcus has yet to prove he can play 2 straight yrs without getting expelled, kicked out or quitting.
Im not going to try to compare Marcus Vick and T.O., but I do feel like Vick is worth the shot. Its not like they are paying him T.O. money anyways.
i was never comparing marcus to owens. i was just saying both have piss poor at udes.
I'll take Owens' piss poor at ude and 15 TD season over Marcus Vick's piss poor at ude and 2 completion pre-season.
Marcus Vick and TO might be risks...but TO will give you a of alot more than Vick ever will and he's proven he can. Vick hasn't proven anything.
Which is exactly why Vick will not earn TO money. Comparing apples to oranges here.
Parcells has a system with his rookies: He makes them earn their stars. Until they do, their helmets are naked. I think TO is a loud mouthed, rude POS and I don't want to see him in Dallas no matter how ing great he plays. I think he should have to earn his star after that he pulled at mid-field. JMHO. How quickly people forget the disrepctful act that earned him his reputation as an asshole.
Earn that star, TO.![]()
Vick will have to prove himself as well. But, the big difference between those 2 guys is that Marcus never took a dump on Miami's field.
I think TO had better do something VERY respectful towards the star OR he'd better perform VERY well VERY often.
I think his sorry ass needs to dress out with NO stars on and clean mid-field with a toothbrush. I cannot believe that people aren't pissed about him being in Dallas. OF ALL PEOPLE, that in Dallas? He better win the ing Super Bowl by himself.![]()
Well if Harrington does have to play at first, it will only be a little while. Could be worse, he could be your starter.
Actually It could be worse. Had we not signed Harrington, Cleo Lemon would have been starting the season. Ill take my chances with Harrington based on experience alone.
vick is not there just to playin QB....he will also play some time in WR and PR...and i dont understand what the panic about Harrington is because evry other article in the Miami Herald i see is about how Culpepper will be ready for Week 1
Vick is a much better risk/reward situation than Owens is. Owens is being counted on in Dallas where as no on is counting on Vick for anything. If Vick doesn't pan out, they really lose nothing, but if Owens doesn't pan out Dallas is hurting big time.
I find it amusing how all the Cowboys fans are in love with TO now.
This is a low risk move for Miami in that if he doesn't work out, they can outright release him.
They already have two young QB's in Culpepper and Harrington so he'll get a chance to develop. Who knows, with the skillset that he possesses and the inconsistency of Harrington and Culpepper, it's not out of the realm of possibility that he could be the starter in 3-4 years. That is, provided he keep his nose clean which remains to be seen.
