Wouldn't it be nice to still have The Mav Killer. Malik Rose played his best basketball of his career against the Mavs. He could guard Dirk or any number of their swing players. Rose also routinely destroyed them on the glass.

Even when David Robinson was around, Malik was the one who got most of the minutes versus the Mavs. Truth is the Spurs have always gone small against he Mavs, but the problem is the Spurs don't have a small who can rebound anymore. Rose was quick enough on the perimeter and was a monster on the glass.

If the Spurs had him this series they'd be looking ahead to the Western Conference Finals right now. Rebounding has killed the team more than anything and if there's one thing Malik can do, it's rebound.

Oh and before you post the "Nazr won the championship last year" crap, that's BS. He was good against Denver and pretty decent against the Sonics and Suns, but was horrible against the Pistons. He was a place holder for Horry ... no more, no less. Rasho or any other center with a pulse would have done the same.

Special shout out to Peter Holt for saving money on ditching Rose's contract.

I don't know, that block on Ben Wallace in Crunch time in game 7 was pretty big.

That's not even mentioning David Lee, who the Knicks took with the Spurs draft pick. Here is a nice stat about him:
Ranks #14 in the NBA in Rebounds Per 48 Minutes(12.9)

    I can't believe it. I agree.

Now if you'll only admit that Nick the Quicksand sucks.

Except for the fact that Devin Brown defending Harris makes infinite more sense than Barry, Manu, or Finley on him, and also rebounds much better than finley.

I'm talkin defnese and reboundin, not taking O into consideration.

he wasn't great in that series, but he made some key plays. Can't expect much more from a role player. but i'm not going to defend his play of late. I'm already on record as saying spurs miss malik.

Great thread. The spurs did not build their team to stop the mavs. They needed a power forward that could guard Dirk while rebounding and make Dirk guard the post. No one fits that style on the current spurs.

Malik Rose isn't Malik Rose anymore.
It would have been nice to Have malik and a time machine.

And David Lee is a very average player : rebounding isn't enough.

Malik ain't coming back. Wishing he were here only adds to the misery of a 3-1 deficit. Useless.
