Hey PJ coached seaton hall so I know he has seen Jim Boheim's 2-3 zone and what it can do. It seems lik by employing 2-3 we could utilize the two 7 footers on our roster and restore our defense.

The zone would force dallas to make outside shots, something we know they can do, but come on, this is how we beat them last time, and it would stop them from penetrating.

    Thoughts?

    well..with a 2-3 you'll probably get that parker/nowitzki matchup more often, how bout a 3-2?

I wouldnt mind Nowitizki going off if it meant the role players were shut down. I think a 2-3 is better at cutting off penetration too, we want to give up the outside shot and cut off the lanes right?

Pop hates zones and will never use one for an extended period of time. If he didn't use a zone against Sacramento he SURE isn't gonna use one against Dallas. Dirk would kill us from the outside.

Zone would be good in some part of the game, especially when Dirk were resting, you know the blondie know te d-zone very welll since he plays Intl BBall for Germany.

The limitation or my concern about having two big boys out there is the speed, Mavs are running fast; I was trying to remember what we used to do last year and I got some ideas ... first of all Defense, assists, share the ball; the problem with defense is that refs are punishing defensive oriented team (not only Spurs).

About the rest I see that Mavs are generating more offense than we do; turnovers are almost controlled but those end of quarters are killing us, not to mention the very well known issue of refs giving some spiritual help to the blondie

Not to mention that NBA rules make it difficult for teams to just sit back in a zone for extended periods of time. They certainly can start in 2-3 zone, but sooner or later the players are gonna have to match up. They just can't stand there and guard air.

I suggested a zone. I think you almost are forced to use a 3-2 because you can't let your post player camp out in the lane in the NBA. I wish you could though, I'd suggest the Spurs get that 9 foot tall Indian kid to stand under the defensive basket and go 4 on 5 on the offensive end.

The NBA has made zone's legal. I thought Pop hated small lineups too, if he is willing to work with them he might be willing to use a zone, otherwise it's just gonna be more of the same.
