Okay, Mavs fans, here's a dilemma for you.
Jason Terry said that he did not intentionally punch Michael Finley. He said, that he was just trying to call time out. He continued by stating that had he done that, it would have been unsportsmanlike and he would never do it, certainly not intentionally.
Mark Cuban said that Terry was retaliating and that it was justified.
At least one of them is not telling the truth. So, please tell me which of the two you think is lying (or if you think both are lying)!

BTW, ESPN tv played Terry's comments which were given on ESPN radio.
Cuban's comments are in print form (blog).
Also, Kori this is slightly different than the other thread about this topic. So, please, please do not lock this thread up.

that's what I think also.
However, there now are two different camps of sects of Mavs fans. Those that believe Cuban is telling the truth and Terry is lying and those who believe that Terry is telling the truth and Cuban is not being accurate.
Two camps: the Terry camp and the Cuban camp.

Terry certainly knows whether or not he did it on purpose.
I believe that Cuban is aware of that as well. If what he said was incorrect, I think that he would know that it was incorrect. As involved with the team as Cuban is (like the owner of the cowboys- real hands on guy), I think that he would have know the truth through personal communication with the players.
Funny I think I listened to Terry's entire conversation on the radio and I don't remember him saying anything like that.
I remember him saying he wasn't sure what he did, but he was sorry for it and sorry to all the fans etc. then Cuban said " no you don't have to be sorry man, we understand and we're going to whoop ass tomorrow".
Now, the next question is: where does Avery stand on this.
I used to have a high opinion of him.
Does he believe Cuban or Terry? If he believes Cuban, why did he not take action against Terry himself (e.g. not start him, bring him off the bench which is a very mild form of discipline which would still allow Terry to play 38 minutes or whatever- bring him in after the first time out).
If David Robinson were the coach of the Mavericks, do you think that he would tolerate this from a player? No way. David would prefer to lose than to pull ghetto stuff like this. Looks like David and Avery have different values despite the fact that they both would verbally say the same things. One man says it and lives it and the other one says it and (at least in this situation) won't follow through. I'm not using the noun since I am not saying that this is a normal or permanent state that Avery is in. However, this one specific action does not appear to be consistent with his profession of faith, imo.
After the Howard-Bowen situation in last year's playoffs, I tried to rationalize his inaction, lack of comments and lack of discipline. This is harder to explain.
Of course, if you are a pragmatist, you will only ask if it will help the team so that the question becomes can I get away with it and will it help me. So, in theory and by logic, hiring an assasin to kill Tim is fine if it will help the Mavericks win and they can get away with it.
I don't believe that Avery is that naive. Crunch time: his faith or winning.
Terry has a history of suspensions and fines. He's not a choir boy by any means.
I'm not making this up. Get a transcript of the broadcast. They played it during the intermission of the Suns Clippers game. This is what he said.
They laughed too because it was so clearly and manifestly a lie (since Terry certainly knows whether he intended to punch Finley in the groin or if he was just trying to "call time out").
Somone needs to tell Terry that you call a time out with two hands, open.

The problems probably occurred when he was a Hawk. But it's still Jason Terry.
Google "Jason Terry Suspended" and look it up yourself. He has been suspended and/or fined in at least three other occasions. At least that I what was able to find.
Suspensions for the following.
-Elbow to Anthony Johnson
-Punch and Fight with Don Reid
-Punch to a Houston Rocket (Could not locate the player.)

I don't know if Terry called a timeout or not, but it looked like time stood still for Finley after the punch.

As for Cuban: he has somewhat of a point. It's definitely retaliatory from Finley's five-star frogsplash -- but getting hit during a loose ball scrum happens all the time and throwing a punch isn't.
I guess what I'm really trying to say is we're going to lose our primary ballhandler.

Didn't I read in another thread that Stern said Evans would have been suspended if it were not for the fact that the punishment was handing down while he was in a plane?
since when do players call timeouts with thier hand balled up? is this something new?

We'll have to see in game 7 if Terry calls another timeout the same way.
