Do Spur fans still think the series is fixed in favor of the Mavs after the suspension to Terry? I apologize if there is another thread like this already.

No choice but to suspend him.

And No, if it's fixed, the refs did the fixing in the two games in Dallas.

I never did think the series was "fixed". I think two (possibly three) games' outcome was determined by the referees instead of the two teams playing.

Although I believe it's the right call, it's NOT mandatory. They just read the exact wording of the rule on ESPN radio and it's a "fine and/or suspension" with the commissioner having the final say. Regardless, that wasn't my point. I was just wondering if this had any affect on the conspiracy theories that I find so amusing.

Their inability to win Games 3 and 4 was the factor, not the refs...

GM 3 They were up 1 with 38 seconds left in the game and Manu turned the ball over.

GM 4 Duncans has 8.5 seconds to win the game and he misses a shot...

Chances have been ther thay are just the most un-clutch and dumb players in the NBA

    Enjoy your vacation spurs fans...

Just because Terry is suspended doesn't mean the refs can't hand it to the Mavs again with bogus calls.

I agree with that. I was just pointing out that it's not Mandatory in how the rule reads in the NBA bylaws. By the way, there are 5 paragraphs on this subject.

I agree with you that he's not paying anyone. I do think he has a hotline to the league/refs, though, and that they listen when he calls.

Well, I'm of the old "let them play ball in the playoffs" school. Use your whistle as a last resort. I hate all these frickin' lame calls and all the suspensions and fines. Some discipline is required, of course, but this is the danged-est playoffs I have ever been witness to. Good God, give the whistles a REST already. To me, this type of officiating just invites things like Jason Terry did; it makes players who would not ordinarily play dirty test the envelope just to see what they can get away with. If they could just frickin' PLAY BALL, they wouldn't have time to think of this stuff.

GM 3 They were up 1 with 38 seconds left in the game and Manu turned the ball over.
Of course, the refs providing the Mavs with 10 trips to the free throw line on the final 18 possessions of the game or the refs providing the Mavs with a Spurs squad without TD for the last three spurs possessions had nothing to do with the outcome.

GM 4 Duncans has 8.5 seconds to win the game and he misses a shot...
Of course, the refs providing the Mavs with the opportunity to win the game from the free throw line from contact mainly caused by Dirk Nowitski while Duncan was getting bumped on every attempt had nothing to do with the out come of the game. Or the refs providing the Mavs an opportunity to win the game without the services of Manu Ginobili for the final 2:23 of the game due to 3 quick fouls didn't have nothing to do with the outcome.

he's a repeat offender. Stern has said before that past problems are taken into consideration when they decide to suspend.

Yes it is mandatory. Why don't you try reading it for yourself, instead of having other people filter it for you. HERE is the exact rule, previously posted as a PSA to Mav fans:

Section V.l: A player, coach or trainer must be
ejected for: (1) A punching foul
    And just for good measure

    (4) An attempted punch which does not
    make contact
And just in case that's not enough, there's another entire section devoted to it:

    Section IX—Punching Fouls
a Illegal contact called on a player for
punching is a personal foul and a team
foul. One free throw attempt shall be
awarded, regardless of the number of
previous fouls in the period. The ball
shall be awarded to the offended team
out-of-bounds on either side of the
court at the free throw line extended
whether the free throw is successful or
    unsuccessful.
    b. Any player who throws a punch,
whether it connects or not, has
    committed an unsportsmanlike act. He
will be ejected immediately AND SUSPENDED
FOR A MINIMUM OF ONE GAME.
    c. This rule applies whether play is in
progress or the ball is dead.
    d. In the case where one punching foul
is followed by another, all aspects of the
rule are applied in both cases, and the
    team last offended is awarded
possession on the sideline at the free
throw line extended in the frontcourt.
    e. A fine not exceeding $35,000 and/or
suspension may be imposed upon such
player(s) by the Commissioner at his
    sole discretion.
    But wait, there's MORE:

    K. PUNCHING, FIGHTING AND
    ELBOW FOULS
Violent acts of any nature on the court
will not be tolerated. Players involved in
altercations will be ejected, fined and/or
    suspended.
Officials have been instructed to eject a
player who throws a punch, whether or
not it connects, or an elbow which
makes contact above shoulder level. If
elbow contact is shoulder level or
below, it shall be left to the discretion of
the official as to whether the player is
ejected. Even if a punch or an elbow
goes undetected by the officials during
the game, but is detected during a
review of a videotape, that player will be
    penalized.
There is absolutely no justification for
fighting in an NBA game. The fact that
you may feel provoked by another
player is not an acceptable excuse. If a
player takes it upon himself to retaliate,
he can expect to be subject to
    appropriate penalties.
