Niether. Mavs offered him a very fair contract which the Suns upped by a big margin. Much more than any other team was willing to give.
Dallas fans...if Steve Nash and Company knock your Mavs out of the finals...
Who you gonna hate more? Mark Cuban or Steve Nash?

Good answer. Kinda dumb question.
I agree with the answer gingko gave though....but we can still have a little fun right?
Yeah. That was really stupid of the Suns wasn't it? That much for a washed up scrub?![]()
That's funny!
Thanks. I love the Mavs, but when did we all lose the ability to laugh a little bit? Suns "burned" us in Game One....we'll get the next four.![]()
Neither...
Exactly...
It wasn't the first 2-3 yrs of the contract that was the concern...Nash had shown signs of wearing down in Dallas and the Mavs didn't want to do the $$/yr that he wanted at the length he wanted. The Suns might be hurting in a couple years with his contract...

It's not like the Mavs thought he would go to Phoenix and suck...as far as getting 2 MVP's goes, he's not really doing much more than he did in Dallas is he? Still the same player...
Thats awesome drbio.
Cosmic - I don't know if you can really judge the final decision until year 5 when Nash, who is already showing tons of wear and tear, is still making $13 mil. He may be just fine, very possible. The Mavs did need to change their style of basketball. Jump shooting fast paced does not win in the playoffs. The Suns now are so much more athletic than the old mavs, so I am still not convinced he would have performed as well as he has had he stayed in Dallas.
The Suns may beat the Mavs, but I think that the Mavs have a better chance of beating the Heat or Pistons (not saying they will, just a better chacne) than the Suns do because Miami and Detroit both have back to the basket post players who can score. That is the achilles heal of the way the Suns play.
That being said, it is curious that Steve took the $45 mil offer from Dallas as a slight and stopped playing for Team Canada in the offseason and started working out more. I wish he had done that in Dallas.
Considering he's taken them from the lottery to two conference finals appearances (and maybe more) in two tries, I'm thinking that's a deal the Suns do every time -- especially considering he makes like a third less than Marion.
Of course, the bottom line is still that he's more valuable to the Suns in their system than he is to the Mavs in theirs.
Do people really think Steve Nash can keep up this style of play until 2010? He was tired in the 2nd round of the playoffs, he only played 35 min a game and really only plays 1/2 of that because he doesn't play defense.
I have no idea. Nash looks like he is going to break down at the end of every season and then has some amazing game. The guy has at least earned an ounce of the benefit of the doubt.
nash is better than when he played in dallas. dirk is better too.
I have to agree and find it very odd that they needed to split up for each to get so much better.
Amazing how Dallas fans hate on the players after they leave. Nash is amazing, plain and simple. That's all their is to it. If this was the Spurs and they'd done this, I'd be calling for Holt's head. Boy, Cuban really feeds the crap well, and the sad part is y'all buy it.
Cuban made a huge offer to Nash and walked away thinking they had a deal. Dirk was even on his way to Dallas to be at a presser for his good friend. Nash then took the money and ran. The Nash departure is hardly on Cuban. He cose a different deal. More power to him and he is a of a player. The reason he isn't beloved in Dallas is because he ran like the little money grubbing canadian biotch he is for more money. The funny thing is, he failed to factor the Arizona state income tax into the equation and the Dallas deal would have actually made more financial sense. So Nash can suck it. If he wanted to leave.....good riddance. It worked out well for him and Dallas in the long run.
We'll see how well you think it worked out for Dallas when Nashy hands Dirk's ass to you on a platter.![]()
Well I'm glad you aren't bitter about it.
Uh, he lead the Suns to beat the Mavs last year, and may do it again.
If he does it again, then it was a very stupid move by billionaire Mark Cuban, who's shown he's not afraid of losing money. (Spending all that jack on unnecessary fines, for example).
Uh, Nash has always been a terrific offensive player. However, his defense game is simply non-existant. We wouldn't be the improved defensive team we are today if Nash was our leader on offense. We wouldn't have beaten SA, Parker would have averaged 30 a game with Nash gaurding him.
He excels in Phoenix because they play a freak style of basketball that doesn't require you to play defense. When average defenders like Marion and Bell are considered "defensive specialists", you know their team is soft on defense. Just like with the Mavs a few years ago, Najera was considered our "defensive specialist". What a joke.
There's no need for Mavs fans to be angry at anyone except maybe the Mavs themselves if they lose the series by choking away wins like they did in game 1. Cuban offered Nash a great contract and the Suns simply offered more. It was a good move for both teams, the Suns got their PG and now Dirk is the leader of the team. Plus now we have much more youth and we don't have a contract that will be ridiculous in a couple years. Well, not one with Nash anyway. We have one of those with Dampier.
Cuban tries very hard to bring a le to Dallas. How do you lay blame for that? Nash seems to be working and trying harder now. Wish he'd tried a little harder for us. It's just like Finley. He's trying harder now, too. Name another nba owner who gives to his players more than Cuban?
he wants to win for himself dude not DAllas, hes extremely ego-centric and cares only about himself.Dont confuse the fact that you are benefitting from that as proof that hes a fellow fan and cares about the little guy yadda yadda
So, no other owner wants to win. That makes sense.
the pistons owner Bill Davidson wants to win and hes approaching 200 years of age too
I seem to remember spurs fan talking this same kind of crapola after game one of the last series too. How did that end up again?
