DVDXCOPY
Try it...works like a charm.
I've been trying to copy some DVDs and they just aren't copying... I've been using DVD Decrypter and then Nero to recode them... Does anyone know any other software or any other methods I can try?

If you place it on the flat glass surface of your copier where you would normally put the sheets you're trying to copy, you should still get a pretty good image of the disc. Are you using a color copier?

Personally I use DVDShrink, it's free, and allows me to keep the extras and what not and the quality is pretty damn good...

It works well, as far as I know you don't have to rip the disk, it will rip it for you and then present you with options, it will automatically compress the main movie, and you can remove any audio you don't want, this can save a lot of space, especially when you have an entire French or Spanish track, or if you want to remove a 5.1 track.I think I have the setup for that... I've seen movies compressed as low as 50% that still look good, I've only had one movie that came out subpar, that was Harold and Kumar, the main le menu looks pixelated, I probably shouldn't have compressed it at all because it's not that big....
Also make sure you check the option for deep analysis, this will improve quality...
Heres what i do ....dvdshrink will not decode the dvd so you have to use dvd decrytor first but you have to save them as files and not an .iso image(unless you have a dual layer dvd burner in which case you can just make an .iso file and burn to a dvd after it has been decrytped.) but nonetheless after you have ripped the files open up dvdshrink locate the files and click backup, that will allow you to compress the movie down to 4 gigs and allow you to burn it on to a blank. but when you burn i choose to burn at one of the lower speeds to keep the disc from skippin or freezing. there are certain dvds that take it a step further and they insert fake files. so if you open up dvd shrink and import the files and see a block that says unrefrenced material or something to that nature you have to make it a still image because its a fake file that wont allow you to run dvd shrink but there are threads about that and its only on certain movies but before this gets shut down tell me what problems you are having or if this helped. sorry its jumbled .
dvdshrink will decode and strip any copy protection, you don't have to use dvd decrypter with it. dvd shrink just compresses the dvd to a single layer dvd size. both programs use nero to burn, but as long as your burner's firmware is up to date you shouldn't have any problems burning something. you can use either program to make an .iso, but you don't need a dual layer burner to burn an .iso file unless the .iso is over the size of a single layer dvd+/-r. you can just mount the iso using daemon tools and do a dvd copy on the fly in nero. daemon tools creates virtual cd/dvd drives on your system and lets you do on the fly copies with only one dvd drive. it's a damn cool program.

never burned anything with them? so you are sayin that if i have a dvd which most are over 4 gigs nowadays and are the dual layer size of 7gigs, that i can just load my seven gig iso into 120 and burn it there on a dvd with out compressin it, if not then im not gettin why you would use the virual drives other then to watch it on the pc?
and you dont have to use nero you can burn that iso with what ever prog you have...i hate nero so i use ezcd creator with the smart burn option.

Shrink decrypts, but there are a lot of guards it can't do. For those, use DVDDecrypter or DVDFabDecrypter to decrypt - then open the video TS files in Shrink to compress.
I use Anydvd first with that it makes your drive think the DVD has no copy protection on it, from there you can use Nero or Clonedvd both are very easy to use. With Nero I just hit copy and in like 15-20min I have a copy with all extras and no big PQ loss, but if you really want it easy use Clonedvd it will show you all the extras on the disc and let you preview them and take them off or leave it. Clonedvd is so easy all my noob friends use it and some are very very slow to used a pc, just pop in the DVD hit copy and then pop in a blank DVD and you have a movie.
You do need Anydvd tho for this to work as it just runs in your tray and makes your drive think it's just a plain old DVD. Anydvd and Clonedvd need to be paid for but if you pm me I can send you the files (there small) and a umm code. I also have DVD Mobile so you can rip a dvd for your Ipod or PSP in 1 step too. CloneCD also will do the same for music and PC games Cd's. Need help just PM me
Man, I've had a DVD burner since last August and I have yet to 'burn' a DVD movie. I can't get it to work.

In case you are wondering the thread reads that It's asking for help
Things you will need before you start:
DVD Decryptor -latest version is usually the best place to start
DVDShrink -same thing, latest version is your best bet
DVD-R/+R drive (duhh) and blank 4.7G media (actually 4.38G for video...long story)
Before you start, make sure that your source DVD is clean, I know that this seems stupid, but even a little blotch or a greasy fingerprint can make the disc either unreadable, create lousy video or at a minimum slow down the ripping process. It takes 2 seconds and can save a lot of time. DVD Decryptor will attempt numerous retries to read the disc, if it is unable to read, select Abort, and tell it to delete the offending **.VOB file. Close the program, eject your disc, clean it and start over. It will ask if you want to overwrite any files already ripped, select "no" (why do the same thing twice??) and it should pick up where it left off. Nothing sucks more than getting to 97% complete and getting a read error that won't go away.
Open DVD Decryptor, select the source drive and destination directory, usually a HD with at least 10G of working space and select File Mode.
Select Main Movie Files. The largest VTS_0x_0.IFO and VTS_0x_0.VOB are usually the main movie
Press the little green play button at the bottom and you should see this dialog
After DVD Decryptor rips your main movie to the HD, start up DVDShrink and select Files, then browse to your ripped folder
OK, this is where it can get complicated, if the movie is under the 4.38G file size limit then you can move onto this step. If it is too big or you want to edit the chapters or trim the credits/beginning off or strip sub les or audio streams then select Re-author. Press Next.
This is where you add the assets (actually the movie itself) for your DVD, press Add.
This window pops up, if you have just the main movie stripped (like you should if you are using this guide), there is only one PGC to select. You can shuttle through the scenes at this point, though this is not going to effect any of your movie. If you have multiple PGC's then you could verify the stream and then edit the in/out points. This is not covered in this guide, though after your first few movies you should understand how to do this. Verify it is the correct stream and hit OK.
If you do wish to trim the in and out points, then select crop in the menu and you can set your in and out points here. This is especially useful if you are close to the 4.38G filesize limit and want maximum quality
If you want to strip any sub les or audio or have decided to trim the clip or need to compress it to a smaller size, you have to go the Re-encode route. Hit next.
Here you can see what each level of recompression will do for you. You can also edit your streams (strip the extra audio and sub les here) under Customize Streams.
Here is the dialog for Customize Streams. Select what you want to cutout and the levels of compression for the video.
No recompression is the best, it is a straight copy of the original DVD video. No loss.
Level 1 recompresses B frames only. This is fast and only recompresses the B difference frames, very little loss.
Level 2 recompresses the B frames at a higher level. This is where quality starts to diminish. Not the end of the world yet.
Level 3 is the beginning of the end. Compresses the P and B frames, you will notice a greater signal loss and a lot longer re-encode time.
Level 4 is a complete re-encode of all I, P and B frames. This is not the SW to use if you need to go this route. There are much better methods to do this though they are much more involved and time consuming. Avoid this one like the plague.
While the transcoding engine in DVDShrink is quite fast, it is not designed to be a replacement for high end MPEG2 encoders. It is very specific in what it does and it does it well, once you start pushing the limits you will see the effects...and they are not good. Level 4 is the definition o pushing the limits here. The author of DVDShrink even stated to avoid it.
Now this is more like it. If the entire filesize is already under 4.38G already, you can just copy it to a folder. Very fast and highest quality. You need to do this step so that DVDShrink can recreate your chapters and IFO files correctly. It also re-parses the entire stream and makes sure that your FF/RW functions will work correctly and chapters. Trust me on this, copy it regardless of filesize.
Almost there, select an output directory and choose DVD Files. This method is easier to test out with a SW DVD player and to burn with the DVD SW of your choice. Creating an image may seem nice, but unless you have a Virtual DVD Rom like Alcohol 120% or Daemon tools installed it is impossible to verify correct playback. Burning a bad DVD after all of this work (OK it is not a lot of work, but DVD-R's aren't that cheap yet!) can put you in a bad mood.
I personally prefer to use Nero to burn my DVD. It is a very good burning SW, can do many formats, will verify your files and best of all, it came bundled with my DVD burner!. Seriously, Nero is a good option, it will automatically create the correct leset and directory structure in your DVD-R and will read from any location on your PC. Some apps only read from the root directory of a drive.

but one day i finally sat down and made an effort to get it right
and its been golden ever since ...its only a single layer but its does what i need it to do

dvdshrink got bought out and shut down too, but it still works pretty well for most stuff. it's easiest to copy on the fly with nero with an iso loaded in daemon tools for me at least, but i burn mostly iso's i got from giganews. i haven't burned a dvd in a while, but like king said, anything you can't copy with dvdshrink you can at least decrypt then shrink it. my home dvd player doesn't really like burned dual layer dvds but plays everything else, and dual layer media is still ridiculously expensive. i have had a dual layer dvd burner for 3 years but have yet to purchase any dual layer media. the compression rarely bothers me, and if i like something that much i buy it anyway.
i use the virtual drives to mount isos. once they are mounted you can do a dvd copy on the fly, which is just like burning a cd from a cd drive directly to a cd burner - it takes less than 6 minutes. most isos the compression is already done - they are dvdr rips and no compressing is even needed. nero is easiest to use with dvd decrypter and dvdshrink because the support is built right in. i don't use any of the smart start nero crap, i just have a shortcut to the exe. i personally hate ezcdcreator, but to each his own.

I like to strip/remove the added value, sub les, or extra language tracks as well...
DVD Decrypter ----> Dvd Shrink (Skrink will burn on the encode, if you want).
If you want to burn it later, use Alcohol 120%.
