The would have gone against the agreement they made with the suns to draft him in the first place.
The spurs would have kept barbosa when they drafted him, him and tony in the backcourt would have been fun to watch, and prolly would have realy helped in the dallas series, also he seems to like to come off the bench.
The would have gone against the agreement they made with the suns to draft him in the first place.
didnt they pick before he suns they could have had him flat out.
??? The Suns made the choice, the Spurs made the pick. They didn't just draft Barbosa and then decide to trade him. It was worked out in advance. We drafted Barbosa for Phoenix, not in the hope of trading him somewhere and then they called.
The Suns obviously wanted him, and the Spurs made it known that their pick was available. The Spurs stated their asking price. A deal was struck. Because of a technicality, you cannot trade your first round pick two years in a row (the Ted Stepian rule). So you reach a deal, find out who they want, pick him for them, and announce the player trade later.
That the Suns picked someone else earlier in the round has no bearing. Try to keep up, people. It's not rocket science.
. Imagine if we took Speedy's option year for $2.50 after he helped us win a championship.
This urban myth still hasn't died???
The Spurs could have kept the pick (#28) themselves and they didn't have to chose Barbosa with the pick to be successful, they could have gone after Josh Howard who went #29, Zaza Pachulia who went #42, Keith Bogans who went #43, James Jones who went #49, or Kyle Korver who went #51 in one of the deepest drafts in ages. I en couldn't believe it at the that time that with all that talent still on the board, the Spurs chose to trade their pick.
The deal was... Spurs draft the player[s] they eyed... if they don't then they draft for the Suns.
The players the Spurs wanted were taken (Plan A) so in the end the Spurs went with plan B which was the pre-arranged deal with the Suns.
They then traded for Speedy Claxton.
Two les since then... why the is everyone crying about Barbosa who didn't do jack until the MVP landed in Phoenix.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, huh?
Yes it is, but here I thought that the Spurs scouting dept at the time was as close to perfection as a recruiting wing could come, at least, they were if you asked any bipolar Spur fan. I guess they can only scout out the real talent in Europe.
Who despite co-leading the Spurs to another NBA le, couldn't get POP to pick up his team-option for a lousy $1 million dollars. And everyone wonders why Speedy wanted out of SA?They then traded for Speedy Claxton.
LOL, so because they don't one good player out of those five you listed (the rest rnge from "uh" to "if that's all") the Spurs scouts are crap?
They ing traded for Speedy who was very big in the finals that season.
TWO ing rings and you're pissed we didn't draft Keith Bogans???
Pop doesn't pick up anything, its not his sole purpose to do so.
There's a majority owner, there's a GM, there's a ownership group.
But then we win another le without Speedy.
Why are ing like a five year old girl?
He did? He sure didn't seem to want out, but instead went with the best offer. And everyone wonders why Speedy wanted out of SA?
Imagine if...the Spurs didn't get lucky and D-Rob get hurt and win the draft lottery...
Imagine if Mavfans didn't whine in every thread on his board.
Imagine if people knew what the they were talking about before they posted...
Imagine if most Mavs fans had social lives.
All these what ifs and what nots. It happened. Cry me a river.
The Spurs traded the rights to Salmons for Claxton in 2002. They didn't pick up Speedy's option for the 2003-2004 season, supposedly because of his injury history, but in reality because they wanted to preserve cap space for Kidd. In 2003 they traded the rights to Barbosa for a future Suns pick (that later went with another #1 and Malik to New York for Nazr) again to preserve cap space for Kidd. Of course, basically, after the dust settled they had passed on Speedy and Josh Howard to lock up Rasho for an eternity. Jason Kidd.
Imagine if the Celtics had won that lottery and the St. Louis Spurs were trying to rebuild around Keith Van Horn.
Hey nitwit, I posted that the Spurs should go after Speedy or Eric Snow before he was ever on the Spurs radar. So don't even go there with Speedy. They ing traded for Speedy who was very big in the finals that season.
Touche'after the dust settled they had passed on Speedy and Josh Howard to lock up Rasho for an eternity. Jason Kidd.
I keep getting in arguments with a friend of mine who keeps saying the same thing.
