The only one I can remember was the one on Walzem, cause my Dad and I drove by it everytime he took me to my Moms ... lol
I miss Bill Miller the most though, since moving to Houston I haven't been able to find anything to replace it!
Damn! Just sitting here hungry and somehow this came to mind. They had some damn good country cooking and sweet tea. Too bad they're not here anymore.

They had the best biscuits anywhere!!
I liked their food but only ate there once before they shut them down.
Yup, that was the one right up the road from where I still live. They had several around town. Now Las Palapas sits there I believe. Funny how things change in time.
They had one on Fred. Rd. near Crossroads (Wonderland) Mall. The closest thing to that now, foodwise, would be Cracker Barrel.
yeah I use to work at the one on Walzem.
Po Folks was excellent, and the food was much like the food I grew up on in Georgia and South Carolina. A lot like my grandmothers', aunts', and Mom's cooking. We used to go to the one on Walzem and the one on Nacogdoches. Loved those chicken livers! Cracker Barrel is probably the closest thing I can think of, too. It's just plain food. It may be a little heavy for some, but it's good homestyle cooking for a gal from the deep South.
There is no truth to the myth that the only people that eat at Cracker Barrel are red-necked Jetta owners. You know, "those people".
I remember! Those were good. We went to the one on Walzem when I was a kid.
You are right...I know one who owns a Ford Ranger...
That place rocked, I remember that the fred road one was always packed. Then I remember they killed some guy there in a cooler and next thing you know business went down the tubes.
I think I might start a thread of old restaurants that closed in SA.
Just eat at Lubys.. same MSG ..
Most places cook meat and other products like from CISCO etc which are bout the same.
My favorite home cookin' restaurant is Acadiana Cafe.
Gator nuggets 4 teh win.
You mean Sysco? Or were you talking about a different kind of chips?
Yea Sysco I guess.. err wrong co..
But they order like 1000 pack of Chicken Fried Steak and MSG gravy / batter.
etc..

Never tried the gator nuggets, don't think I ever will.
Fried alligator from Pappadeaux is most delicious. Mmmmmm!!
Po Folks had some good food and for the price you recieved a very nice portion.
I also remembrt the tin bucket cafe near Ingram....they would put the drinks on mason jars.
Tastes like Chicken...
Gator nuggets are delicious if done right. The best I had was actually at Margaritaville in the French Quarter in New Orleans.
I remmeber that location Fred. rd.
There is a restaurant in Houston that is very much like the Tin Bucket; it is CALLED the Mason Jar and they serve all their drinks in mason jars as well. Food is excellent, good southern home cookin'. The pork chops are to die for.
Too bad Walzem has turned into a hole. I feel bad for the folks in Windcrest. That's still nice but surrounded by .
